Job Title: Server Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary Take orders and serve food and beverages to patrons at tables in dining establishment. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Greet and seat guests Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request Take orders from patrons for food or beverages Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages Write patrons' food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems Collect payments from customers Clean service work areas and tables Complete paperwork and make payment drop into cash drawer Other job duties as assigned Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Excellent decision-making ability and analytical skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Touch screen ordering software. Other Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Late shifts, weekends and holidays.
