About This Job

I. Job Summary

Responsible for administration of all personnel policies and programs for service professionals relative to employment, benefits, training, staff member relations, communication, equal employment opportunity and employee welfare.

II. Essential Job Functions

  • Advises and counsels staff and management on staff relation matters including but not limited to items mentioned below.
  • Sharing and interpreting, when necessary, the guidelines of Carillon Miami Beach policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws. Provides feedback regarding any policies, which may need revision, updating or clarification.
  • Ensuring that coaching and disciplinary action is administered appropriately and fairly.
  • Developing a performance review and salary adjustments program. Monitoring them to ensure they are done equitably and fairly. Reviews submitted performance reviews and identifies circumstances, which suggest needed counseling.  Analyzes evaluations and goals to ensure appraisal comments are appropriate and goals are measurable and achievable.
  • Conducting terminations and reviewing proposed terminations to ensure actions are appropriate and documentation supports termination.
  • Performing unbiased investigations and providing appropriate resolution to claims of harassment, discrimination, or any other claim of unfair treatment or in response to any staff member concern.
  • Creates and maintains proactive programs to ensure staff member views, problems, issues, concerns, etc., are heard and addressed as needed.
  • Handles unemployment claims, including pulling together appropriate documentation, working with Unemployment Representatives in putting cases together, coordinating witnesses and testimony, and participating in hearings.
  • Makes recommendations to Executive Committee for new programs, policies, training, and development opportunities for management and other staff on behalf of Human Resources.
  • Maintains thorough familiarity with staff member benefit programs, policies and procedures.
  • Remains informed of all State and Federal laws as they pertain to Carillon Miami Beach.
  • Informs staff members and management about new policies and procedures as they become effective.
  • Ensures that Human Resources service professionals are trained and knowledgeable about the benefit programs, as well as all policies and procedures of Carillon Miami Beach.
  • Advises and counsels staff members and management on questions/problems regarding staff member relations.
  • Adheres to and enforces all personnel policies.
  • Approves individual salary actions within limits authorized by the Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director; conducts and participates in industry wide wage and salary surveys and suggests changes in wage scales as needed and in line with market trends.
  • Develops and administers Human Resources budget and Carillon Miami Beach-wide payroll expenses.
  • Administers Educational Assistance Program.
  • Represents Carillon Miami Beach at industry related activities.
  • Participates in the Manager-On-Duty program.
  • Directs and instructs the management staff in effective recruiting and interviewing techniques to ensure the hiring and retention of qualified and efficient staff members. 
  • Directs and administers employee relations programs and activities such as employee recognition and service award ceremonies, social functions and general hotel meetings to maintain a positive employee relations climate. 
  • Develop, implement, and administer policies and programs related to the management of all hotel staff to ensure the maintenance of a positive and productive employment environment, and monitor for fair and consistent application. 
  • Monitors safety programs and Workers' Compensation Compliance & Benefits.
  • Maintains turnover statistics and prepares quarterly reports to management.

III. Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or equivalent education and/or experience – PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Three or more years of HR Generalist/Director experience preferably within a luxury hospitality setting.
  • Previous training and/or public speaking experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state labor laws and common HR practices and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service and positive interpersonal skills, including ability to facilitate and mediate sensitive and/or confrontational matters and to provide coaching and counseling in a productive and effective manner.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain satisfactory and effective relationships with all levels of management, government offices, staff members and employment applicants.
  • Must possess excellent skills of analysis for comprehension and problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities and outstanding presentation skills, including ability to professionally speak in public and in front of groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, and proficiency or the ability to learn quickly with little assistance other software packages.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Good judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality are critical.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
