JOB SUMMARY: Assist with the inventory in the Maintenance Department

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

LICENSE/PERMITS REQUIRED: Must be least 21 years of age.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have good understanding of basic math skills. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the Resort. The ability to be self-directed as you will work on your own. Ability to operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts.

KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE: Ability to operate a Micros terminal, and Phone system. Computer skills a must for the ability to "surf the net" to research new products when needed. Must understand MS-Excel in order to work with spreadsheets.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: General maintenance knowledge involving at least 1 year of back-of-the-house operations is preferred. Prior inventory/purchasing clerk and/or hotel/resort experience helpful.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work in a stationary position for long periods of times (up to 5 hours).
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally move up to 100 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Special vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work and be flexible with all shifts, weekends, and holidays.

  • Make independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger. Collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates purchasing activities with user departments to maintain optimum inventory and buy levels.
  • Develops, with upper management, and recommends changes to purchasing procedures and policies.: Reviews purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness, approves requisitions, designates approved supplier, and assigns requisitions to staff for processing.
  • Recommends vendors for notification to bid for contracts. Reviews bids to ensure adherence to procedures and policies. Communicates with supplier changes in specifications, change orders, quantities, and adjustments. Contacts carriers to arrange for transportation of purchases. Keeps current with economic, industrial, and other trends that affect markets and prices.
  • May hire, train, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. May supervise the maintenance of purchase order/invoice/receiving records system.
  • Ensure that all guests and associates feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly, and courteous service at all times.
  • Must have full knowledge of the layout of the resort and its storage facilities.
  • Maintain clean, neat, and organized service area including storerooms
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of soft goods, hardware, supplies, and food and beverage placed into inventory storage.
  • Ensure quality issuance of all products received and provide paperwork/findings on inadequate product.
  • Maintain accurate inventory count of all stock on hand.
  • Maintain "waste" sheet.
  • Order stock and supplies.
  • When needed, assist in the Shipping & Receiving area and deliver items as needed throughout the Resort.
  • Assist Department Heads and Supervisors with par levels of inventory stored and maintain a low on-hand inventory based on Kalahari requirements and business levels.
  • Participate in training classes and all Daily Promise shift meetings.
  • Report all concerns and problems to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Ensure friendly and courteous customer relations at all times, identifying and welcoming current patrons and vendors, and work to identify and grow future business through guest relations.
  • Keep an open line of communication with all departments and keep them posted on what is happening in the department.
  • Protect company assets by adhering to security policies and procedures.
  • Assist with ongoing projects, additional job duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director.
