Job Overview

As an Assistant General Manager, you will responsible for the routine operations and supervision of staff while maintaining a consistent standard of quality that maximizes profits. You will be responsible for hiring, training and retaining staff that strive to provide each and every guest with best vacation experience possible at boutique limited service properties. You will oversee a 55 unit limited service hotel that opened in June 2017 as well as it's older and seasonal sister property,  a 31 unit hotel that is open from the end of April to the end of October on the shores of Lake Michigan in Traverse City, Michigan.  Both properties are independently owned and operated by Josh and Tonya Wuerfel of Wuerfel Resorts. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain a professional appearance and convey a warm, welcoming personality that is smiling, positive, and easily approachable and extremely trustworthy and organized.
  • Select or assist with the selection of all hotel staff employees and handle all new hire paperwork and oversee training.
  • Oversee all departments to help ensure that standards, service and hospitality are provided to each guest and foster a positive work environment for staff that will reflect onto guests.   
  • Assists with sales and marketing of the property through correspondence with local organizations, CVB, wineries, OTAs, and help handle special room requests.  
  • Financially responsible for maintaining accurate records, daily deposits, and credit card handling.  
  • In the absence of the general manager you must be able to control and operate the hotel including planning, organizing, staffing and communicating within departments. 
  • Responsible for scheduling within labor standards.

Note - Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Work Environment:

  • Schedule can vary, but could include working on holidays, weekends and various shifts.
  • Long periods of standing will be required as well stooping, kneeling, bending, pushing and lifting.  
  • Must be able to work in northern climate on the shores of Lake Michigan that includes interaction at times with guests on the beach or lawn. 
  • Fast paced environment in which reading, writing, typing and speaking the English language at an advanced level.  

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, or related field with 2 years experience in a Hotel Management Operations position.  Brand experience is not necessary since we are an independent operator.
  • Must display intermediate knowledge of the hospitality industry with developed management skills and can demonstrate ability to effectively lead.

The Baywatch Resort is Traverse City’s newest Beachfront Hotel and sits on the southern shore of East Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. The Beach Haus is also a limited service property that operates from the end of April to the end of October each year. The Beach Haus continues to be a family vacation destination offering beach volleyball, beachside gas BBQ grills, lawn games. Rooms offer free wireless internet, 55” HDTV, mini fridge, microwave and coffee makers. The Baywatch Resort and Beach Haus Resort are independently owned and operated properties in Traverse City, Michigan. Traverse City is a beautiful beachfront town on the shores of Lake Michigan. The natural beauty of the area offers spectacular rolling hills that feature orchards, vineyards and forests that overlook bays, harbors and inland lakes for fishing, boating, and swimming Salt Free while being watched over by Bald Eagles throughout the Summer and year round. In the Fall the autumn leaves of the maple trees set the hills on fire with reds, yellow and orange flames dancing in the sunlight as the grapes are harvested into wines. In the winter the hills come alive with downhill skiing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing races and the snowy owls make their annual visits. As Winter melts away into Spring the song birds return, the cherry, apple, pear and peach orchards bloom into rolling carpets of pinks and whites and the honeybees have a new season of honey production.
