As the Director of Luxury Design – Central America and Latin America (CALA), you will provide creative design expertise and lead the design process for all luxury projects in Latin America and the Caribbean with the responsibility for delivering best-in-class designs for new developments and elevating the quality of existing Hilton Luxury branded hotels and properties that are being converted.

What will I be doing?

As the Director of Luxury Design – CALA, you will inspire hotel developers, owners and external design partners to deliver wonderfully designed hotels that surpass guests’, development partners’ and brand expectations. In this role, you will take ownership of the design activities for all new luxury developments and renovation projects, including new build, conversion, adaptive re-use, Hilton funded Capital Expenditures (CapEx) and Owner funded CapEx renovation projects for Hilton Brands including Waldorf Astoria and Conrad Hotels and any other potential new luxury brand to be launched in the future in the Latin American and Caribbean territory. As the Director of Luxury Design – CALA, you will drive engagement with developers, owners and their project consultants whilst developing relationships within the Architecture, Design and Construction (AD&C) Team, all stakeholders within Hilton, as well as its external design partners and agencies.

In this role, you will report to the Senior Director of Design Latin America and Caribbean (LAC).

As a Team Member in this role, you will be responsible for:

Design Direction and Strategy –

  • Developing a clear position as regional lead for luxury design and innovation within CALA
  • Providing clear direction and owning the development of branded design narratives for all luxury brands in CALA
  • Collaborating effectively with Global Design Services and Luxury Leadership Teams as required to implement regional design strategy and goals
  • Acting as key contact for luxury brands design development
  • Integrating with a culture of independent thinking and delivering innovative and creative solutions
  • Maintaining knowledge and understanding of hotel design industry trends and our competitors’ design environment and leveraging this knowledge in design development
  • Establishing an innovative and creative design advantage through the use of new products and materials
  • Understanding wider design trends from across all industries and anticipating their implementation

Brand Standards development and upkeep –

  • Supporting the development and evolution of CALA AD&C standards across all Luxury brands
  • Ensuring project stakeholders’ understanding and implementation of AD&C standards in all luxury projects across the CALA region

Project Delivery –

  • Supporting Hilton Development Team in securing all new, luxury hotels, adaptive re-use and conversion opportunities as part of the CALA growth program
  • Taking a leading role on all luxury brand design and development projects in CALA
  • Supporting Hilton Development and hotel owners in the delivery of outstanding new hotels and refurbishments
  • Managing all architectural and interior design reviews throughout the design and construction period for all luxury projects, leading to their openings, including preparing design guidelines for all projects
  • Managing the Design Review Committee (DRC) presentation process for all luxury projects in CALA, to ensure consistent, high quality submissions
  • Coordinating and presenting monthly design progress reports for all luxury projects and new opportunities

Team Collaboration and Activities –

  • Supporting the Senior Design Director with, and participating in, regional design team activities including arriving at key decisions, which influence team strategies and initiatives
  • Participating at major industry events and conferences, including Hilton conferences
  • Attending regular CALA AD&C monthly meetings
  • Coordinating all combined initiatives with fellow CALA AD&C Team
  • Participating in monthly forecasting required by the AD&C Team

Goals and Challenges of the Role –

  • Understanding the positioning of Hilton’s luxury brands and business goals
  • Working effectively within Hilton’s Matrix structure
  • Driving engagement with owners and their consultants
  • Taking the lead to shape and drive design activities on luxury design developments, with specific focus on Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands


What are we looking for?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum Education: BA/BS Bachelor’s Degree in architecture or interior design
  • Additional Requirements (i.e. % of travel time, etc.):
    • Travel as required (approximately 75% of time)
    • Recognized professional qualification in architecture or interior design
    • Significant experience within the hospitality design industry, either working for a major international hotel company or in a senior design or management role in an architecture or interior design studio, specializing in international hotel development
    • Experience of working in a multicultural or international setting
    • Will have operated in the luxury world with a track record of success, delivering high profile luxury hotel design projects
    • Hotel design and delivery experience, ideally across all ownership models
    • Strong design and technical expertise
    • Proficient in AutoCAD
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
    • Proficient in Adobe InDesign

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • Education: MA/MS Master’s Degree
  • Previous experience operating in a similar role for a leading international hotel group
  • Fluent in Spanish, spoken and written
  • Qualified Architect
