OTO Development has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced human resources professional to function as the Area HR Business Partner to support the leaders of 7-10 hotel properties in the Northern California region.

Our ideal candidate has experience supporting multiple sites, is knowledgeable of California employment laws, union avoidance, has strong employee relations skills and is bi-lingual.

This position is based out of Redwood City, California and you will be expected to travel 30-40% of the time within a 25 mile radius with occasionall travel outside that region.

Summary of duties Include:

  • Provide support, build relationships, and partner with hotel leadership in creating a best in class workplace; build relationships at all level of the hotels’ workforce to provide people service support, employee relations, recruiting support, onboarding, benefit meetings, associate support, counseling/coaching and be proactive in finding ways that can help to engage, reward and recognize our OTO Associates!
  • Assist in the implementation of new & current people initiatives, conduct internal investigations, communicate or train on policies, review terminations, assist with onboarding of new hires, benefits orientation and overall support to the employee relations, programs and systems designed to engage, recognized and reward.

  • Bi Lingual (English/Chinese/Tagalog or English/Spanish)
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law (DFEH), wage & hour, documentation, workers’ comp, federal and state LOA, and labor relations;
  • Empathy and Service: help with improvement on our employee engagement and retention efforts.
  • Self-starter and proactive approach;
  • Comfortable & skilled with coaching and counseling to our Property leaders (GM, AGM and Department Manager);
  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect with others;
  • Excellent training skills- expert user in power point, eLearning software, comfortable with leading training or rolling out new initiatives or reinforcing existing ones;
  • Able to travel 30-45% of the time.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and support a business partnership with the hotel leadership and work teams serving as an employee advocate, cultural ambassador, subject matter expert, and problem solver on employee issues.
  • Check in with associates on any issues, work with corporate on leave management, benefit communication, associate training and other initiatives.
  • Provide employee relations and engagement support to Northern California with the focus on achieving best in class workforce for high retention and associate engagement.
  • Provides coaching/counseling to hotel leadership on employee issues, documentation, terminations, and navigating through the CA employment laws.
  • Assists with CA GM & AGM training on CA Team member handbook, Manager Self Service, Recruitment /ATS.
  • Policy review and communicate with Corporate on trends relating to California employment law, wage and hour and leave ordinances at state & local levels.
  • Develops and maintains employee relations tracking, reporting and analysis.
  • Directly handling any ER matters and investigations with Northern California and working closely with Mgr.-Employee Relations and Director-Employee Relations.
  • Conduct Exit interviews within the Northern California and provide information to Corporate & regional leadership.
  • Provide training on a variety of employment related topics as needed.
  • Actively and consistently participate in weekly hotel staff meetings, daily line up meetings, departmental meetings, as needed or otherwise requested.
  • Support hiring managers/HR Analyst with recruitment efforts and provide guidance, suggestions and work on recruitment initiatives.  
  • Assist with orientation of new hires within the Northern California area.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years Human Resources generalist or management experience preferably in a hotel or F&B environment AND a BS/BA Degree in psychology, hospitality management, business management or related field preferred.
  • Bi- Lingual (English/Chinese/Tagalog or English/Spanish)
  • Prefer PHR-CA, or SHRM- CP
  • Must possess strong computer skills to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Strong preference: Ultimate Software, eLearning software.
  • Must possess strong organizational, task-management, leadership, creativity, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all applicable federal, state and city employment and labor laws.
  • Desired continued career growth as an HR professional
  • Ability to self-lead in the workplace.
  • Travel in Northern California and Washington state.
