Job Description:

We are pleased to announce that our current Director of Food & Beverage has been promoted to VP of Food & Beverage for our management company, Hotel Investment Services, Inc.  As a result, the Inn at St. John’s, a AAA Four-Diamond Hotel, Conference Center and Golf Course, is searching for an experienced Director of Food & Beverage.  

This position is responsible for overseeing our upscale 5ive Steakhouse and outstanding Banquets Department (to include 200+ associates seasonally) and will be an active member of our very involved Executive Team.  Applicants with upscale restaurant AND extensive banquets experience preferred.  (We will also consider current, very experienced Assistant Directors of F&B but only if they fulfill all of our requirements.)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Financially responsible for forecasting, budgeting, P&L analysis, capital expense, inventory controls, maintaining labor and controllable expenses to budget. 
  • Direct oversight of all aspects of the food and beverage operation to include: banquet, audio visual and restaurants.
  • Reviews costs, expenses, pricing and trends in the entire operation and takes action to maximize the profitability of the operation to maintain market positioning.
  • Interaction with key customers to ensure that all expectations are exceeded.
  • Assist with the marketing of the food and beverage outlets.
  • Direct collaboration with the Executive Chef and key department heads on the development of all menus and concepts.
  • Ability to prepare, read and effectively utilize banquet event orders and sales resumes. 
  • Interviews, hires, trains and develops all food and beverage leadership and key line associates to meet quality and productivity standards. Conducts performance and salary reviews, provides open communication and discipline as appropriate. 
  • Conducts regular meetings with food and beverage staff to review past and future performance of service, quality, general information concerning guest and associate relations, and upcoming functions. 
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to learn are a must
  • Hands-on work will be an important part of this Executive Committee position.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have an outgoing, energetic, hands on and service-oriented personality. At least four to five years of progressive food & beverage to include restaurant and banquets management experience is essential.

About Us

In October of 2000, the redevelopment of the main buildings into The Inn at St. John’s Conference Center created spaces for corporate and social conferences, wedding receptions and Catholic celebrations. December of 2005 saw the addition of a Grande ballroom space with room for up to 450 guests. The center features stately Romanesque architecture, beautifully renovated to reflect its heritage; two regal ballrooms showcasing 25-foot ceilings with hand-painted inlays; a breathtaking two-story Atrium room; and twenty-two distinct meeting rooms, each with exterior windows for a bright, comfortable setting.

In January of 2006 The Inn at St. John’s hotel and 5ive Steakhouse and Bar opened for business. With 118 luxury guestrooms, this distinct setting offers all the modern conveniences of a large hotel, but in an intimate setting.

With the launch of The Burger Loft in 2013, the property now offers both upscale and casual dining experiences.

St. John’s golf course began with nine holes in the property’s earliest years and grew to 18 when the golf greens opened to the public in 1979. In the 1990’s, during the property’s redevelopment, nine more were added, creating the 27-hole course that now exists on site.

Today, The Inn at St. John’s continues to offer guests impeccable service and a distinctive ambiance unsurpassed in Southeast Michigan. For meetings, conferences, weddings and a host of important occasions, the legacy of The Inn at St. John’s lives on.
