About This Job

The Night Manager is the Manager on Duty and responsible for all hotel operations during overnight shift hours, focusing on Front Office operations, night audit and hotel safety/security. The Night Manager assists the Front Office Manager in all aspects of the department including but not limited to operations, Accounting and night audit in accordance with hotel policies and procedures. The Night Manager provides leadership and support to all members on the night shift and enforces the Winston Hospitality Standards of Excellence in all areas.


Manage and monitor activities of all employees on the night shift making sure they adhere to the standards of excellence and to the guidelines set in the employee handbook, hotel policies and procedures, coaching, training and correcting where needed.

Maintain a professional and high quality service oriented environment at all times.

Act as manager on duty for the hotel in the absence of the Front Office Manager dealing with complaints, problem solving, disturbances, special requests and any other issues that may arise.

Manage the night shift ensuring all employees perform the tasks assigned to them and coordinate Front Office activities with other departments.

Inform all Overnight staff of nightly activities, group and VIP arrivals as well as special requests and repeat guests. Check accommodations, making sure any special requests are carried out accordingly, greet guests upon arrival and ensure escort to accommodations if appropriate.

Must actively participate in the decision making process on guest relocation for nights when over capacity, execute accordingly and ensure a smooth relocation process. This effort must be coordinated with the Front Office Manager and/or Manager on Duty prior to shift start.

Ensure the accurate completion of the daily night audit in a timely fashion. Must be able to perform the full night audit if needed.

Assist the Front Office Manager in implementing and enforcing financial controls throughout the department, helping with control of operating expenses, scheduling and purchasing.

Work closely with the Housekeeping Department to improve guest services and foster cross departmental communication.

Be aware and able to enforce all fire-life-safety procedures. Remain current in all updates with regards to new procedures and training. Ensure staff is fully trained in emergency procedures. This position is a member of the hotel’s emergency response team.

Report any suspicious persons, activities and/or hazardous conditions to the Security department and/or the Front Office Manager.

Fulfill all reasonable requests from guests, to ensure their comfort, satisfaction and safety

May be required to assist with overnight responsibility for reception, checking guests in and out, taking reservations and dealing with all telephone enquiries

Be responsible for evacuation, in cases of emergency, acting as first point of contact for guests and the emergency services; be accountable for guests’ safety and comfort

Complete security checks at hourly intervals throughout the night

Undertake additional administration duties, as requested by either the hotel manager or the front office manager

Adhere to company policy for reporting accidents and incidents

Always adhere to all company policies and procedures and licensing laws

Carry out instructions given by the management team and head office


  • Must have exceptional knowledge in accounting operations to include all aspects of accounts receivable, accounts payable etc.
  • Must have exceptional mathematical skills and ability to operate a 10 key by touch.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of all operating departments including rooms, front office, housekeeping, engineering, accounting, sales, food and beverage for limited service hotel operations.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of computer systems for guest registration, reservations, reporting and etc.
  • Must have above average financial comprehension to understand and interpret numbers as they apply to operations in hotels.
  • Must have thorough supervisory skills proficient in accomplishing the task.
  • Must have the ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, and resolve conflicts.
  • Must be well groomed in uniform or business attire.
  • CPR Certification and/or First Aid Training preferred.


Compensation: 16.00-17.00
