About This Job

Description

This in-house attorney position supports
design, implementation, operation, monitoring and continuous improvement
efforts around Hilton's Privacy & Data Security and Ethics &
Compliance programs. Job duties include:

  • Tracking
    and monitoring China data protection and data security requirements,
    providing business partners with guidance on privacy and data security
    issues, and overseeing internal and third-party privacy and data
    security risk assessments
  • Implementing
    compliance policies and operations procedures to promote compliance and
    address key compliance risk areas in China, developing compliance
    training/education programs, designing and implementing compliance risk
    mitigation plans (anticorruption, trade sanctions, anti-money
    laundering), monitoring compliance activities against internal and
    external benchmarks, and leading internal investigations of compliance
    issues.


What will I be doing?
As
Sr Director & Sr Counsel, China Compliance and Privacy, you will be
responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest
standards:

Privacy & Data Security
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of China privacy and data security laws and regulations
  • Oversees internal and third-party risk and privacy impact assessments
  • Provides support for fraud investigations as they relate to privacy and data security requirements
  • Advises on contract provisions related to privacy and data security
  • Delivers training to promote information security and privacy awareness
  • Assists in data mapping and data classification exercises and supports data governance and information management efforts
Ethics & Compliance
  • Promotes a culture of ethics and compliance
  • Provides advice and guidance related to compliance policies and procedures
  • Delivers ethics and compliance training programs
  • Develops
    risk-based compliance training appropriate for specific functions in
    China to optimize the training experience and effectiveness from the
    perspective of each team member group being trained
  • Conducts
    assessments to monitor existing compliance, identifies needs and
    opportunities, makes recommendations, and develops compliance risk
    mitigation plans
  • Collaborates with other functional areas to implement compliance risk mitigation plans (“operationalizing compliance”)
  • Participates in internal investigations of compliance issues
  • Performs special projects as assigned
General
  • Works
    with the standard systems and procedures of Hilton’s Legal Department
    and supports the continuous improvement and updating of these systems
  • Leverages effective partnerships with outside counsel resources, internal clients, and other corporate departments

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Law degree from a reputable university
  • 7-10 years post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal counsel role
  • Familiarity with privacy laws and regulations in China
  • A solid understanding of corporate ethics and compliance program requirements and best practices
  • Proven experience in driving and executing complex ethics and compliance programs across a large enterprise
  • Knowledge
    of the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines and laws affecting
    international compliance risk areas (e.g., the U.S. Foreign Corrupt
    Practices Act, trade sanctions programs, and anti-money
    laundering/source of funds regulations)
  • Excellent
    written and oral communication skills. Ability to write with clarity,
    listen effectively and communicate clearly in a polite and
    understandable manner
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently
  • Ability to manage organizational change, problem solve, and make and implement high impact decisions.
  • Ability
    to develop and maintain productive and positive working relationships
    across all levels of the organization and with external vendors and
    business partners
  • Cultural
    awareness, sound business acumen, and the ability to exercise judgment
    in analyzing facts or circumstances surrounding sensitive issues
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently and work effectively under time and resource constraints
  • Ability
    to work effectively both independently and as part of a team,
    particularly with the company’s hotel developers and franchise
    administration team
  • Exceptionally high attention to detail
  • Ability to organize complex projects and establish priorities consistent with departmental objectives
  • Able to work irregular hours to accommodate global time differences
  • Strict
    compliance with applicable laws, company policies, and the highest
    standards of professional responsibility, ethics and integrity
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Ability
    to work well under pressure and effectively handle multiple, concurrent
    demands and appropriately prioritize responsibilities
  • Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English
  • Education: BA/BS/Bachelor's Degree
  • License/ Certificates: Qualified to practice law in PRC
  • Years of related experience:7+
  • Add'l requirements (i.e. % of travel, etc.):10% travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10-13 years post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal counsel role
  • Prior exposure to hospitality industry or other industry with a franchise model
  • Years of related experience:10+
