Qualifications

EDUCATION:  Ability to read, write, speak, follow, and give written and oral directions in English.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:  Three years experience as a First Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent of a smaller golf course, or 5 years working on a golf course having worked most positions; Valid state driver’s license.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Working knowledge of golf course maintenance operations, to include daily work scheduling, strong people skills, growth, development, and maintenance of turf grass, pesticides and fertilizers.

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for the aesthetic value of both golf courses, producing the best playing surface available.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:  Must be able to tour the entire golf course operation; Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; Must be able to work safely around pesticides and fertilizers; Must be able to communicate with employees and guests; Must be able to drive motor vehicles.

Position Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, holidays and split shifts.
  • Must arrive to work on time, consistently.
  • Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.
  • Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval.
  • Attend all required training, safety courses; attend office and departmental meetings.
  • Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
  • Prioritize and set all work assignments for the following day, coordinating with Grounds Foreman.
  • Maintain daily work schedule log.
  • Tour the golf courses regularly to insure the highest quality of overall conditions; Trouble shoot as needed.
  • Work closely with crews to insure knowledge of personalities and skill levels.
  • Work closely with Superintendent, gaining knowledge and responsibilities of financial aspects.
  • Assist Superintendent with staff’s performance evaluations.
  • Assist Superintendent with the selection, hiring, training, development, and termination of staff.
  • Working with golf course pros, monitor activity on course, dispersing work force relative to that activity.
  • Act as the Superintendent in the event of the Superintendent’s absence.
  • Assist the Superintendent in the staff meetings.
  • Maintain high safety standards, by training and working daily with staff.
  • Perform and follow up on any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
