Position Summary

Hyatt is looking for an exceptional visual and user interface designer that is ready to share their passion and leadership of designing across all platforms, including desktop, web and mobile apps. The designer is responsible for the development and execution of user interface design assets and must have an affinity for consistency, color use, typography, and a keen eye for subtle details.

The candidate will be a part of a growing digital product function and will report to the VP of Digital Product, collaborate with interaction designers, researchers, developers, product owners, copywriters, content strategists, and analysts. The work that this candidate designs at Hyatt will be a part of a new digital ecosystem for an international leader in hospitality and will be seen and experienced by millions of travelers around the world.

The Visual Design leader will also manage a small team of visual designers who create the designs used for our digital platforms as part of our product team work on a day-to-day basis. He/she will also determine what outsourced work may be required from time to time in order to ensure smooth delivery of product designs.

Position Responsibilities

  • Participate and lead concept development, design iteration, and detailed specification of interactions for digital applications; experience with agile environments and a strong desire to help others develop their agile capabilities.
  • Lead the creation of visual and user interface designs, as part of an overall interactive design strategy and system, that address business and user requirements, including the design and production of screen layouts, color palettes, typography, and interface elements that share the brand story across various digital platforms.
  • Present designs to product teams and stakeholders in a meaningful way that shares the vision and goals of the designs and clearly articulates design decisions
  • Lead collaboration between Product, UX and Development teams on opportunities to improve the visual communication of solutions while mitigating risk when designing enhancements; ability to design for a responsive site with demonstrated mobile-first experience
  • Participate in research and ideation sessions with UX leadership to create experience design strategies for products that translate user research and business goals into tangible outcomes
  • Mentor junior designers to hone their skills in design as well as improve soft skills
  • Work directly with vendors to manage their output, quality assurance and maintain relationships
  • Work across departments to help educate teams of our digital design standards and craft new standards to ensure consistency and fluidity of standards across multiple touchpoints
  • Support relationship and process improvement on product teams, be the Visual Design “voice” that will lead to effective and efficient inter-team communication

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years industry experience in interaction design or similar role
  • 7 years industry experience, 5 in digital product work, with experience with agency, consulting, and in-house teams preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in visual design, visual Communication or related field
  • Advanced degrees in design, especially digital design, are preferred
  • Design community involvement

Computer Skills Needed to Perform this Job

  • Expert proficiency in design software (e.g. Axure, InVision, etc.)
  • Additional Comments and Requirements
  • Mastery of transforming requirements and ideas into deliverables including flows, site maps, wireframes, and prototypes that communicate design requirements to the project team
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with a team and independently to perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision
