About This Job

The primary function of the Area Group Sales Manager is to assist in the development and implementation of Sales and Marketing strategies, along with the selling of group rooms for the purpose of maximizing profits for both our hotels located in Queens; LaGuardia Plaza and Hampton Inn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Meet or exceed goals for budgeted revenue along with any and all daily, weekly, monthly and/or annual sales call goals as directed by the Area Director of Sales and hotel management.
  • Maintain relationships with current clients whether through phone calls, e-mails, site tours, cold calls or physically visiting them.
  • Develop and adhere to a weekly sales schedule that is to be reviewed by Area Director of Sales.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of call goals and prospecting in STS to meet and exceed outlined goals; submit with weekly recap every Friday. Calls and prospecting must be verified with ADOS for accurate tracking each week.
  • Research, prospect and proactively solicit all groups pertaining to the assigned market ensuring goals are met and exceeded.
  • In your role as Areal Sales Manager you are required to spend 80% of your time outside the hotel. This will be comprised of soliciting new business, maintaining existing business and going to networking events, tradeshows, etc.
  • Keep current with all local activities through various means; newspapers, newsletters, internet etc.
  • Attend networking events, expeditions, and trade shows on behalf of the hotel.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and hotel functions.
  • Ensure to follow through on all issues and discrepancies as pertaining to Sales.
  • Conduct oneself professionally at all times and practice effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Must adhere to all Revenue Management strategies set forth by hotel management.
  • Handle all administrative tasks as directed by Management.
  • Contact organizations, travel agencies, associations and commercial companies in order to establish new contacts and prospect for potential business.
  • Ensure all agreements made with groups are completed and all files are complete with contracts that have been signed off by ADOS. Act as a liaison with other departments as necessary.
  • Ensure that all sales related policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that clients’ needs and requests are completed in a timely manner.
  • Conduct Site Tours of the properties for prospective clients.
  • Respond to all Sales Leads within 24 hours. 14 hours for Hilton.
  • Create proposals and send out contracts on accepted leads.
  • Comply with all company standards and policies, as established in the employee handbook.
  • Log all clients’ requests and confirm their completion.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Knowledgeable in Opera System as well as OnQ
  • Comply with Ambassador Duties as scheduled.
  • Other duties as required.


Must have a minimum of 3-5 years Group Sales experience, hotel setting strongly preferred. Strong proficiency in solicitation and prospecting. Thorough knowledge of service flow and capabilities in all revenue areas. The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective and professional written and verbal communications and have the ability to effectively network and market our properties. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Power Point, and Opera. A minimum of two years’ experience in a group sales environment. Outstanding presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Be highly organized and able to execute all initiatives quickly and accurately with deadlines. A proven track record in developing long term business relationships.

Job Qualifications: 


High School Diploma


Minimum 2-5 years sales and catering, or 2 years in hotel Catering/Convention Services, Banquet, Hotel Sales; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses/Certifications Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to drive to appointments.  Knowledge of STS,  Delphi Catering booking sales tools or Opera preferred.
