In this position, you will oversee the accounting and compliance function for Interstate centralized accounting office.  Provide support and training to a team of staff accountants and accounting managers.  Provide support to management, operations and owners.  Prepare the schedule of reviews and reports on portfolio of hotels overall compliance.  Ensure the accounting office maintains high standards, and follow all applicable Interstate policies and procedures, and provides accurate reports in a timely manner for all hotels processed in the centralized accounting office to key decision makers.

As a Director of  Accounting-Transitions, essential functions include:

  • Coordinate with operations, finance and the various departments within the Shared Services Center ensuring all aspects of transitions are aligned.
  • Responsible for pre-opening and post transitional follow-up ensuring all tasks are completed timely.
  • Ensure hotel compliance with hotel and accounting policies and procedures, legal requirements and contractual obligations (including obligations under a management agreement) utilizing internal controls, auditing and security procedures. Ensure deviations are brought to the attention of the General Manager and appropriate regional management and to protect the hotel's assets.
  • Conduct property reviews, cash process and reconciliation reviews, balance sheet reporting and review, Monthly Checklist, Journal Entry, Risk Matrix, Accounts Receivable and System reviews for accuracy completeness and consistency with company policy and expectations.
  • Ensure timely month end closing including the publishing of month end financials and other reports for centralized properties.
  • Manage the training process for the staff accountants and accounting managers as needed; training to include such systems as IHR1, Blackline, Lawson, and TM1.
  • Communicate with ownership on critical accounting issues and attend owners meetings as needed. Prepare special reports as requested by the owners of properties, and other reports required for SEC filing and REIT accounting.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls. Ensure controls are in place to meet SSAE-18 audit requirements. Ensure accounting compliance as required per management agreements for properties processed at the centralized accounting office. Work with auditors and consultants to maintain proper internal controls and processes necessary for accurate GAAP reporting to SEC.
  • Coordinate with operations team on financial matters regarding centralized accounting and attend operations meetings as needed. Coordinate with immediate supervisor and other department heads in Dallas accounting office for effective communication between departments.


Bachelor’s Degree required; focus of study in the area of Accounting/Finance desired. At least five (5) years of experience in a related position and industry, preferably the hospitality industry. Experience managing a team or teams of accounting professionals required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are expected. Requires advanced knowledge of the accounting, finance and hospitality profession. Requires working knowledge of major accounting areas and the skill to integrate and communicate that information. Ability to study, analyze and interpret complex activities or information in order to improve known practices or develop new approaches. Ability to make decisions based on only general policies and procedures. Must possess communication skills in terms of the ability to negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals, and/or management.
