Position Purpose:  The Director of Sales is required to sell the hotel as a meeting location to local and national meeting planners including: sleeping rooms, meeting space, audio visual and food/beverage. The Director of Sales monitors budget, forecasting revenue and leads the team to achieve goals. The Director of Sales is responsible for managing the revenue of the hotel specifically rooms & banquet/catering.  Essential hospitality and customer service standards must be used at all times: eye contact, smile, speak first, and engage in polite conversation (if time permits).

  • Four-year college degree, hospitality or human resources preferred; or equivalent education/experience.
  • 3 -5 years of experience as a Director of Sales in a full-service Hotel and/or experience in direct sales in the hospitality industry.

Essential Duties and Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Direct the efforts of all Sales & Catering staff to help accomplish and/or exceed approved revenue budgets and goals for the Hotel.
  • Work with the General Manager and other Senior Managers to develop and implement business strategies that assist the hotel to achieve targeted goals.
  • The DOS is also responsible for the development and execution of the Sales & Catering teams’ strategic goals.
  • Must meet and/or exceed personal booking goals and team goals.
  • Must provide tactical direction by developing, implementing and monitoring annual sales plans.
  • Establish yield management strategies to grow REVPAR at the hotel, and yield strategies to drive ancillary revenue for the hotel.
  • Implement sales programs that include strong concentration on outside sales in all markets, including corporate, incentive, government, SMERF, corporate incentive and leisure markets.
  • Provide annual and long-term forecasts of expected sales revenues and the marketing expenditures necessary to carry out the hotel’s annual operating plans.
  • Most be able to travel for sales missions, trade shows and leadership meeting.
  • Developing Budgets & Sales plans for current and future years.
  • Reporting revenues and Sales Department activity through weekly reports.
  • Prospects, solicits, sells, and closes business for the hotel including:
    • Preparing contracts.
    • Preparing and presenting effective proposals.
    • Managing client database & leads.
    • Rev Max and Manage group blocks.
    • Monitoring client correspondence.
    • Maintaining well organized documentation.
    • Routine correspondence with clients on the phone, e-mail, and outgoing mail.
    • Conducts and schedules site tours or FAM visits for visiting meeting planners.
    • Maintains sales goal on a quarterly basis.
  • The Director of Sales will also participate in sales and other staff meetings.
  • Contributes to a positive workplace environment by demonstrating superior customer service skills in dealing with internal and external customers, speaking positively when referring to the hotel, and acting and speaking in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
