About This Job

BASIC PURPOSE:  Plan, solicit, book and coordinate local catering groups, weddings and wedding room blocks to meet/exceed revenue & profit goals.

ORGANIZATIONAL SCOPE: Handing inbound sales leads, in addition to soliciting new catering accounts through market knowledge and networking, in order to meet annual sales goals.  Overseeing client functions to ensure extreme client satisfaction. Functions will include weddings, proms, mitzvahs, reunions, formals, and other social events. Staying current on market trends in order to guide clients during pre-planning process and be actively engaged in competitive marketing analysis of surrounding hotels. Work with other departments within the hotel to provide quality service to customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Solicit, negotiate and confirm new and repeat business through various efforts (lead follow up, telemarketing, direct mail, referrals, internet prospecting, outside calls, etc) to maximize revenues to meet/exceed goals.

 Efforts are to be in compliance with established IHR sales process standards and local guidelines.  Prioritize sales tasks based on revenue goals and deadlines. (50%)

Plan, up-sell and coordinate function details with clients to include but not limited to space requirements, meeting times, equipment, menus, billing, etc.  Prepare and execute sales/catering contracts, event orders, group resumes to ensure quality product delivery and customer satisfactions. Knowledge of food and beverage menus, food preparation and presentation. Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision. Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently. Sales ability and skill in both oral and written form. (20%) Create and distribute effective internal and external communication (written and verbal) (10%) Develop and implement creative sales strategy by analyzing historical, current and future hotel/market/account trends.  Implement catering marketing plans to achieve revenue goals. (5%) Develop positive working relationship with existing customers for repeat business.   Explore new business opportunities with potential customers. (5%) Maintain accurate, legible records and files consistent with established automated or manual sales system.  (5%)

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

Participate in training, trade shows, field trips and community, industry and professional organizations to maintain high visibility in support of the achievement of sales and revenue goals.  (3%) Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned and participate in task forces and committees as requested (2%)

Fundamentals

A four-year college degree is not required; however, more than two years post high school education with one to two years employment in a related position is required. Thorough knowledge of catering, food and beverage, and the hospitality industry is expected. You must possess effective verbal and written English communication skills. This position also requires an ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
