About This Job

Provides iT strategic leadership for the Data portfolio of initiatives, including managing relationship with business discipline teams to plan technology investments, developing technology strategy, roadmaps, uncovering solutions, informing demand management and addressing escalations.  Accountable for Marriott’s Modern Data Platform (Data), Data Privacy, and Universal Guest Identification (UGI) programs with IT Business Partnership and Planning. This position will partner with Customer Experience organization (CX), Legal, and other disciplines to increase the value Marriott derives from Data and Data Science while ensuring proper customer privacy and Data Governance.  Designs and implements program management structure and processes that enable program work streams and facilitate timely outcomes that are within budget, and achieve expected benefits. Partners with discipline leadership to define a technology strategy for data and a roadmap for future investment.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required:

  • 12+ years’ of IT or business management leadership experience that includes

    • Leading data driven initiatives and complex projects that touch multiple systems

    • Defining IT or business strategy for data and analytics and leading multi-year programs to implement new capabilities, infrastructure and partner or lead related business change

    • Experience in implementing processes across large organizations

    • Managing relationships with business customers, IT organizations and external service providers

    • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and drive direction/focus

    • Direct management of complex budgets in excess of $10M in direct and indirect costs

    • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, and decide and influence appropriate course of action

    • Direct management of cross functional, sourced, or matrix teams

  • BS/BA or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Skilled at cross functional collaboration with senior leaders and peers to clearly articulate product vision and desired functionality

Preferred:

  • Experience in implementing cloud data platforms at scale, serving diverse business needs

  • Experience with data innovation in environment that still have large legacy components of data and systems

  • Experience with consumer data and analytics in a travel/hospitality/retail/data business environment

  • Experience transforming data and analytics capabilities in partnership with analyst, discipline leaders, and discipline/operations end users

  • Experience with development and implementation of program management governance and execution processes

  • Significant experience and success in implementing new business applications with complex technology integration and business process change on time, on budget, and with high client satisfaction.

  • Experience acting as the primary account management for assigned business disciplines coupled with an In-depth understanding of business discipline and operational needs

  • Executive-level oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.

  • Graduate degree

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Managing Programs

  • Directs and influences the IT program work streams of associates, vendors and other partner organizations

  • Implements programs, concepts, products or services to identify operational implications prior to full-scale roll-out

  • Drives the creation of a strategic direction of application functionality to meet business requirements; communicates technology direction with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain alignment and commitment on direction

  • Partners with the discipline program management and IT build leaders to ensure the strategy, solution and roadmap plans are met

  • Coordinates efforts of multiple program work streams to deliver the end solution

  • Partners with Customer Experience organization leaders and a broad set of discipline and iT stakeholders to align the data, privacy and universal guest identification capabilities with roadmaps for key brand, discipline and operations strategies.  Determines the appropriate business need and business case for the implementation of future enhancements

  • Verifies completeness and accuracy of business requirements

  • Brings clarity and understanding of the business case to the IT participants and aligns delivery outcomes with the strategy and benefits

  • Aligns projects with short and long-range business plans, and with IT build and architecture

  • Verifies technology project plans, costs, schedules, and deliverables meet business need.

  • Serves as primary project liaison with business partner(s)

  • Serves as an escalation point when program issues arise

  • Monitors project risk management and verifies mitigation plans are in place for each risk

    Financial, Contract and Risk Management

  • Manages Data Strategy, Privacy and Universal Guest Identification (UGI) program budget and multi-year financial plan; collaborates with discipline partners to develop annual budgets

  • Explains to the business discipline iT long term costs and impact of the business decisions on such costs

  • Partners with other IT groups (Build, Run, Manage-Enable) to provide financial transparency to discipline partners

  • Manages technology roadmaps to guide solutions along a common path as well as retirement or migration of lesser-used or expensive to maintain technologies.

  • Aligns with Security and Privacy to validate that processes are followed to protect and secure customer and/or associate data

  • Engages with Vendor Relations to develop service agreements with external companies on behalf of the discipline

Leadership Accountabilities

  • Manages a team; responsible for staffing, performance management and development, and creating a positive work environment

  • Mentors and coaches Plan Directors and Business Analysts as needed.  Assists in career development

  • Actively drives maturity of IT operating model (i.e. participation in Communities of Practices) and continuous improvement
