POSITION SUMMARY

Marriott’s Global Design Strategies team is looking for the blending of “left-brain” and “right-brain” skills to marry business and strategic rigor to expand the discipline with an innovator’s know-no-boundaries creativity. This position requires a flexible thinker and outstanding communicator who is comfortable working cross-functionally and influencing different personalities and perspectives. You will work closely across various functional areas, including, Design, CX, Brand, Operations and Development as you help push out the boundaries of physical design innovation for Marriott’s 30 brands throughout the world.

You’ll also collaborate with the SVP and multi-disciplinary teams to research and lead the design of best-in-class physical designs in the hospitality industry. You’ll oversee and produce both tools and design prototypes—anything you need to help you articulate your ideas. You’ll use your leadership skills and design talents to lead projects and teams, as well as work independently to create original designs. You’ll have a demonstrated experience of working with internal and external partners, vendors and creative partners to deliver innovative solutions. You’ll concept, pitch and implement solutions that deliver results, while meeting complex challenges with creativity and “rise to the occasion” mindset.

CORE ACTIVITIES

  • Monitor and identify internal/external new design concepts and forward-looking trends across industry for applicability to Marriott’s business objectives.
  • Drive concepting, prototyping and evaluation of new design initiatives (both targeted and un-targeted opportunities).
  • Partner with Global Design Strategies leadership to design, test and pull-thru design concepts to existing initiatives such as modular construction.
  • Partner with Continent Global Design teams as they drive design innovation in their key projects as well as obtain insights from market research to inform future innovation initiatives.
  • Play a key role with other disciplines across the company (including CX, Global Operations, Brand, Development, Loyalty) to drive experience design initiatives.
  • Elevate Global Design’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation, especially within GDS design and across global teams and business partners.
  • Consultation/Advisory - provide thought leadership that will stretch the boundaries of physical design for our brands, disciplines and company being mindful of operational constraints. 
  • Collaborate with design, business and technical teams to ensure feasibility of design against the budget and overall product/platform needs. 
  • Ensure all deliverables are of the highest quality.
  • Develop and champion innovation tools, methodologies, and approaches to cultivate ideas and opportunities that are more diverse, unique, drive quality and sustainability.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Key Skills and Experiences

  • Ability to articulate new concepts clearly and in a compelling way
  • Ability to lead, inspire and coach others through thought leadership, effective creative direction, and strategic visioning
  • A solid understanding and demonstration of user-centered design principles
  • Demonstrated success in interpreting trends and research to design and implement innovative and profitable design focused products and services.
  • An expert understanding of what types of experiences are made possible, particularly in the hospitality industry
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as communicate and influence across organizations
  • Must be organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Keynote, PowerPoint

Education and Professional Certification:

  • At least 6+ years’ experience in interaction or physical design
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Educational experience in design, technology or art a plus
  • Several examples of successfully launched projects that demonstrate strategic, conceptual and creative thinking.
