About This Job

Expected Contributions – Essential Job Functions - Competencies

Responsibilities impacting this position are; 1) the drive to move to “above property information technology solutions”; 2) the dependence on technology by all business functions to achieve their functional goals; 3) increased expectations of our guests for new information technology services (e.g. always connected); 4) the increased requirement to ensure the protection of guest personal and Marriott International sensitive information; in summary, the CIO- Americas fills a strategic role with significant impact in the overall value delivered from Marriott International’s investments in technology to maximize returns and mitigate risk.  

  1. Insure the continent’s specific and unique strategic business requirements are fully represented and incorporated into the systems and services provided by the Global Information Technology Function.
  2. Provides strategic direction and guidance in the appropriate use of existing and emerging technologies in alignment with strategic and operating plans and priorities that drive profitability and support grow.

  3. Insure Continent alignment with IT strategic initiatives in support of brand initiatives while optimizing current resources both at the Global Information Technology level and within the Continent.

  4. Drive initiatives to protect information and data integrity across continent to reduce operating risk to the company while accounting for multi-country government regulations.

  5. Guide Continent strategic Vendor Relationships for all IT related platforms and products in market to provide consistent delivery of services.

  6. Provide strategic oversight to Continent IT based programs in collaboration with Continent Lodging Services Officer.

  7. Provide IT discipline thought leadership and foster the development of IT human capital.  Ensure sustainability of Human Capital Management.

  8. Drive the strategic positioning of Marriott technology with owners during the development process and expand the awareness of Marriott technical capabilities in support of continent growth opportunities.

  9. Provides corporate IT functions with field-based requirements for new IT products and services.

  10. Contributes to the development of IT strategy and develops goals for areas of responsibility that are aligned with the Americas business goals and the greater IT organization

  11. Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with customers to understand the business, ensure timely exchange of information and customer satisfaction. Provides ongoing advice and guidance to business partners and centers of expertise concerning issues related to areas of responsibility.

  12. Continually looking to the future sets and shapes the overall strategy for Americas Field Services to ensure that the IT Field Discipline has the ability to support the changing technology needs of the business.

  13. Works in a close partnership with other IT functions to provide a seamless response to the information technology needs of our hotels and other MI field-based locations.

  14. Build and maintain strong relationships with other continent leaders, global IT leaders, owners and franchisees and other key stakeholders in order to effectively influence key business decisions.

  15. Creates an environment of a continuingly learning organization and provides the change management leadership necessary to keep Americas IT Organization abreast of the latest technologies needed to effectively compete in the lodging industry.

  16. Develop high performing team of Information Technology professionals who can effectively partner with key business leaders at various organizational levels on strategic business issues and opportunities and translate those business issues into IT strategies and actions. 

  17. Drive the attraction, development and retention of high caliber IT talent within the Americas.  Identifies and develops next level of IT leadership within the continent capable of progression into senior IT leadership positions with greater accountability. 

  18. Align the organization to drive a high return on the continents investment in information technology. 

  19. Ensures the information technology needs of Marriott International are met in a manner that is consistent with MI systems and technology standards.  Ensures compliance with all Marriott International Policies (MIP) and Information Security Manual (ISM) initiatives.

  20. Perform other duties as assigned

Candidate Profile

Experience   

  • Significant experience as an Information Technology leader, including a minimum of fifteen years of demonstrated success in managing projects of significant size and scope, as well as demonstrated success as an IT leader on a senior leadership team (i.e., a business unit/division or major corporate staff function) providing support of applications, hardware and operating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technology-enabled solutions to business problems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into operational priorities. 

  • Significant experience and demonstrated leadership in information systems management and enabling technologies.

Education or Certification

  • Bachelors Degree required. 
  • MBA or Masters of Science/Graduate Degree in IT or related field area preferred

Location and Travel

  • Position will be based in the US.

  • Position will require US and International Travel.
