About This Job


The Director of Communications is responsible for leading the overall communication strategy, including all media, government and community relations efforts, for Live! Casino & Hotel, one of the largest drivers of tourism and economic development in Maryland. This includes the strategic planning, development, execution and dissemination of all media messaging.

Develop/maintain relationships with local/industry print, broadcast and web contacts as primary contact for company. Develop new relationships with regional/national press. Pitch news and stories to the media. Write and distribute press releases on events, promotions, winners, news, and archive coverage of same. Provide quarterly and annual PR reports.

Contribute to annual marketing plan. Manage company giving program, and all philanthropic and volunteer efforts. Manage small support staff and vendor relationships, including external public relations firm, video producers, graphic designers, event producers, among others.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties

Media Relations:

  • Develop strategic communication plans and lead initiatives to support Live!’s overall communication objectives.
  • Manage the development and execution of internal and external communications materials to include, but not limited to, press releases, executive speeches and talking points, and coordinate with external public relations agency in preparing responses to press inquiries and requests for information.
  • Develop/maintain media relationships with focused attention on the Baltimore and Washington, DC region.
  • Pitch stories per calendar to obtain media coverage based upon company activities (grand opening ceremonies, celebrity appearances, brand promotions, etc.) or activities held by outside parties at the property; monitor media for accuracy; ensure that newspapers and third-party websites are updated regularly.
  • Maintain library of photos, releases, video, and news clips.
  • Serve as on-call property contact for all media inquiries 24/7/365.
  • Support Social Media and Influencer strategy and initiatives
  • Act as on-site chaperone for any press/media presence
  • Manage quarterly and annual PR reports, and contributes to annual marketing plan

Community and Government Relations:

  • Serve as liaison to all government, community and non-profit partners and stakeholders, including tourism organizations, chambers of commerce. Cultivate partnerships; manage and develop database of contacts and provide regular communication of Live! activities.
  • Plan and execute an annual calendar of company sponsored community activities.
  • Manage Community Relations Committee and company giving program.
  • Develop and execute public awareness campaigns; awards recognitions

Internal Communications:

  • Support HR team with internal communications projects, including but not limited to Town Hall meetings, company newsletter, training and information video production


Job Requirements

  • 10+ years managing Communications, media and community relations functions for a high volume company, preferably in the casino / hospitality/entertainment industry.
  • Solid, established relationships with media in the Baltimore/Washington, DC region preferred.
  • Strong written/oral communications, research, proofreading, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and work in a creative, fast paced and interruptive environment.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid gaming license as determined by Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Commission for the position.

Applicants must already be authorized to work in the US and must be able to obtain and maintain a casino license in the state of Maryland.
