REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:         Facilities Maintenance Superintendent

 SUBORDINATE STAFF:                      N/A

 CLASSIFICATION:                                 Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full Time        

 JOB CODE                                                Landscape & Maintenance Technician 

 WORKING HOURS:                              Normally 40 hours per week

 BASIC FUNCTION:                                The Landscape & Maintenance Technician is specially trained to operate specialized equipment and to perform specific tasks relative to the landscape and maintenance operations of the Facilities Maintenance Department and the Shoals Club.   

 PRINCIPAL DUTIES:                           Specifically, the Landscape and Maintenance Technician must:

 

  • Perform daily landscape operations activities as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Perform other functions and routine landscape/maintenance operations activities as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Establish and maintain all records for the landscape management plan for the year.
  • Establish and maintain inventory records for all landscape equipment and materials.
  • Maintain logs for the operation, maintenance and gas usage of each piece of equipment.
  • Perform daily tasks necessary to keep the maintenance facility clean, organized and a safe working environment.
  • Clean and inspect landscape equipment after each use and report any deficiencies to the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Keep all landscape applications equipment properly calibrated and in good working condition.
  • Share in the overall organization and cleanliness of the landscape operations equipment and maintenance facility.
  • Follow all federal, state and local regulations in regards to landscape care product use, storage, cleanup, disposal, spill containment and safety regulations.
  • Read, understand and interpret MSDS for all landscape care products.
  • Communicate on a regular basis via a 2-way radio system. 
  • Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards. 
  • Perform specific tasks relative to Landscape and Maintenance Technician, including:
    • Chain saw operations
    • Tree and palm trimming procedures
    • Operation of mechanical hedge trimmers
    • Operate power hedge trimmer
    • Annual flower preparation and maintenance
    • Irrigation repairs and procedures
    • Landscape applications of fertilizers and pesticides
    • Plant, pest identification
    • Line trim around trees, shrubs, posts, etc.
    • Edge, sidewalks, landscape beds, etc.
    • Sod laying
    • Utility vehicle operation
    • Blower operations
    • Vacuum operations
    • Manual weeding
    • Hand tool operations
    • RotoTiller operation
    • Mulch distribution

      Be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle.


PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS

Good organizational skills.

Good verbal skills.

Ability to use logical or rational thinking to solve problems.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

Ability to provide effective written and verbal instructions, as well as the ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.

Ability to visually inspect facilities for proper appearance.

Ability to perform moderate physical work; may be required to lift up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such

activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping and other repetitive tasks for up to five (5) hours.

REQUIRED WORK HABITS

Work habits include regular attendance, team work, initiative, dependability, and promptness.

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE

Thorough knowledge of landscape management and procedures as would normally be acquired through a secondary education, or two or three years additional college level course of study or training or equivalent experience in the landscape industry.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works outdoors overseeing grounds. Potential exposure to inclement weather, equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers if proper safety procedures are not followed.
