As a member of the Global Technology leadership team, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) & SVP, Enterprise Architecture & Shared Platforms is the company’s senior technology architect who, through their leadership role in the development and implementation of technology solutions, enables differentiation that drives business growth. The CTO & SVP works in collaboration with the other Global Technology senior leaders to determines how mainstream and emerging technologies should be used to advance business strategy and/or enhance the company's product offerings. She/he also 1) oversees a set of architectural, software development and portfolio management processes and tools that deliver the right level of governance across Global Technology to ensure predictability, consistency, quality and satisfaction; 2) provides strategic technology perspective and guidance for the optimization of existing and emerging technology applications and infrastructure; 3) provides leadership in all leadership aspects of compliance to Marriott International policies relating directly to technology, information security and hardware and software standards. In doing so, the CTO & SVP leads an organization that includes Enterprise Architecture, Shared Platforms, Enterprise Product Engineering, Digital Products Engineering and Technology Portfolio Management teams.


Education and Experience

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university required. MBA or Master of Science/Graduate Degree in technology or business field preferred.
  • 15+ years in technology management, demonstrating progressive career growth, to include as a technology leader on a senior leadership team, and patterns of exceptional performance.
  • Significant experience and success in implementing new business applications with complex technology integration and business process change on time, on budget, and with high stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Direct management of complex budgets in excess of $100M direct and indirect costs.
  • Direct management of enterprise architecture teams with considerations for security/application vulnerability, various application development approaches and architectural frameworks.
  • Experience with and significant knowledge of IT outsourcing activities in a managed services environment.
  • Proven executive experience in IT development across waterfall and agile environments.
  • Proven knowledge of all aspects of IT functional areas.

  • Ability to work through ambiguous and open-ended business requirements and priorities and translate the same into a clear roadmap and definition of success
  • Executive level communications skills with sensitivity to global workforce and internal and external stakeholder communication needs. Ability to establish clear communication and storytelling via presentations, key performance metrics, reports and data.
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills including team player that works well with counterparts from various functions/departments and has the ability to influence the work of counterparts without direct reporting accountability.
  • Experience building business cases to drive investment and resource decisions.
  • Results oriented; delivers results under difficult conditions and demonstrates balanced judgment under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-complexity efforts and competing priorities.
  • Robust analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, develop recommendations and report out.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, customer driven environment.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES                                                                                         

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) & SVP, Enterprise Architecture & Shared Platforms fills a strategic role with significant impact in the overall value delivered from Marriott International’s investments in technology to maximize returns and mitigate risk by:

  • Contributing to the development of technology strategy and developing goals for areas of responsibility that are aligned with the broader technology organization.
  • Serving as the Company's top technology architect, partnering with Global Technology leaders to develop and maintain an enterprise reference architecture that meets near and long-term technological objectives and provides the right level of governance across Global Technology.
  • Providing strategic direction and guidance in the deployment and appropriate use of existing and emerging technologies in alignment with strategic and operating plans and priorities that drive profitability and support growth. Align the organization to drive a high return on the Company’s investment in technology.
  • Communicating the Company’s technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customer and other stakeholders.
  • Guiding the development of architectural, software development and portfolio management standards, processes and tools that drive predictability, consistency, quality and satisfaction in accordance company and industry standards and best practices.
  • Managing, monitoring and collaborating with service providers/vendors contributing to the development of technology solutions to enable the business.
  • Integrating customer service and support with software engineering processes to support resolution of business and customer issues and improve application usability.
  • Driving initiatives to protect information and data integrity and reduce operating risk to the company.
  • Ensuring the technology needs of Marriott International are met in a manner that is consistent with MI systems and technology standards.  Ensures compliance with all Marriott International Policies (MIP) and Information Security Manual (ISM) initiatives.
  • Working in a close partnership with the other Technology functions to provide a seamless response to the technology needs of the business.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholder groups to understand the business, ensure timely exchange of information and customer satisfaction, and effectively influence key business decisions. Provides ongoing advice and guidance to business partners and centers of expertise concerning issues related to areas of responsibility.
  • Attracting, retaining and developing a high performing team of technology professionals who can effectively partner with key business leaders at various organizational levels on strategic business issues and opportunities and translate those business issues into IT strategies and actions.
