Under the direction of the Director of Experiential Marketing, the Internal Communications Manager manages and coordinates the communication and marketing needs of all other casino and tribal departments including San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) to ensure all communications are uniform and properly communicate to team members and others. The Internal Communications Manager serves as the liaison to all departments and SMBMI entities to develop and produce accurate and informative message points, as needed. The Internal Communications Manager assists in the planning and execution of all in-house team member events, outside events, annual golf tournaments, and SMBMI events as assigned. The Internal Communications Manager ensures that all communication jobs, requests and special assignments are delivered and executed on time in a professional manner.The Internal Communications Manager is a skilled writer and editor with experience developing strategic communications plans to include messaging and execution for lines of businesses and shared departments across San Manuel Casino (SMC). The manager utilizes their expertise to allocate company resources to maximize collaboration, efficiency and creativity in the building and maintenance of consistent branding across marketing and public relations channels. This role is responsible for developing and managing internal communications strategies, plans, and tactics for a series of critical operational functions within the enterprise.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Partners with departments to create and execute communication plans targeting team members at all levels, including executives.

2. Leads the development of internal communications and marketing communications strategy for SMC / SMBMI.

3. Establishes an internal communications strategy in conjunction with the Director of Experiential Marketing.

4. Provides key stakeholders with council on strategy, messaging and positioning.

5. Meets with SMBMI leaders as needed to determine communication, special event, advertising and marketing needs.

6. Writes and edits planned communications.  This includes independently identifying, researching, interviewing for and writing product aligned with enterprise priorities, and working with subject contributors to ensure consistency of voice, style and focus.

7. Assigns and delegates communication, special event, advertising and marketing jobs.

8. Proofreads, edits and checks all communication jobs for accuracy, content and style.

9. Plans and executes team member events, SMBMI events, and outside SMC events as assigned in a timely and professional manner.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, Business Administration, Management or related field is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism or Public Relations or a similar role within a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ communications experience planning, writing, and editing content for corporate intranets, or the internet.

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, measuring and evaluating communication effectiveness.

  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Word (including the ability to edit and track changes online), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional advanced editing tools.

  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with other business and functional areas.

  • Superior project management skills including the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute internal communications strategies.

  • Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges.

  • Knowledge and understanding of SharePoint is preferred.

  • Must have extensive experience in writing and executing proactive communications plans; project managing multi-dimensional initiatives; an acumen for building and fostering relationships across business functions and a diverse workforce. 

  • Must be an excellent writer, strategic and creative thinker, and skilled at managing relationships with executive leadership.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
