About This Job


The Nevada Director of Human Resources is directly responsible for the overall administration, strategic coordination and evaluation of the Nevada HR functions.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain a high quality of guest service according to Jacobs Entertainment, Inc. Mission Statement and F.A.S.T. Track Values Statement.
  • Supervision of HR management staff for scheduling, payroll, forecasting, evaluations, training, selection and hiring as well as managing and reviewing the line functions of the Nevada property HR Departments.
  • Monitor and manage personnel policies, procedures and employee issues.
  • Monitor all employee disciplines, ensuring total compliance throughout all departments. 
  • Coordinate and assist with legal matters requiring outside counsel. 
  • Proficient knowledge, and compliance of Federal, State, Municipal and Gaming laws and regulations.
  • Ensure consistency between the HRIS system, Wage Charts and employee records. 
  • Consistent application and monitoring of wage and salary administration. 
  • Development and management of HR budgets, billing, reports and recordkeeping.
  • Assist and monitor all legal claims, employee liability as well as reviews, prepares and attends applicable unemployment hearings. 
  • Collaborate with the General Managers and Corporate Director of HR regarding processes, compliance and compensation.
  • Perform Job Description review and compliance to all applicable laws.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Company and departmental policies and procedures as well as the willingness to learn and follow any policy or procedure that may be introduced in the future.
  • Adhere to all appearance standards.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with Management.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during all interactions with guest, fellow Employees, and Vendors.
  • Ability to accept performance feedback in a professional manner.
  • Regular attendance and arriving on time to all scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Functions

  • Oversight of Recruitment, Staffing, Safety, Training and Development, and ERC.
  • Coordinate and meet with insurance brokers and WC and ELP carriers.
  • Ability to work effectively with Corporate and casino management, employees and co-workers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to enhance the working relations of other employees and departments.
  • Provide consistent and effective communication skills with employees, supervisors and management team.
  • Acquire additional human resources skills through continuing education, reading and conferences or coursework.
  • Other related duties including but not limited to complying with the following; Nevada Gaming Rules and Regulations, Nevada Internal Control Minimum Procedures, Nevada Liquor and Beer Codes, Federal requirements for Anti-Money Laundering, Company Policies and ITS reporting.

Skills, Education and Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent or seven to ten years of experience in Human Resources with extensive experience with HR Employee Relations.
  • Management experience in the casino or hospitality industry a plus.
  • Operational management abilities and experience.
  • Extensive travel throughout the Northern Nevada region/properties
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as knowledge of software for ADP payroll, HRIS systems and MS Office, to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  .
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with employees of all levels. 
  • Be an advocate for non-exempt employees as well as enforcing policies and procedures. 
  • Experience with interviewing/recruiting, development of wage and salary programs, training programs and risk management.
  • Certified as PHR, SPHR or SHRM – preferred
  • Consideration given to a 4 year degree in HR or Business Administration.

Required Work Cards

  • Identification that establishes identity.
  • Identification that establishes the right to work in the United States.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada Gaming License.

Machinery, Work Equipment, Programs, Software, Hardware Used

  • Computer, telephone, radio, fax, copy and scan. 
  • Proficiency in HRIS.
