Responsibilities:

The Sales Manager position includes but is not limited to the following duties. Other duties may be assigned: 

  • Strong track record of achieving or exceeding sales goals, with one to three years experience selling for hotels
  • Promote and sell to group / SMERF market in the defined geographic region
  • Maintain and expand current group relationships and generate new leads for the business
  • Generate hotel and destination awareness through direct phone sales, direct sales calls, entertaining, tradeshows, and networking groups
  • Work closely with Director of Sales and Marketing, sales, and marketing team to solicit, sell and confirm group business required to meet budgeted sales goals
  • Possess the ability to solicit and secure group / SMERF travel
  • Display a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in decision-making and managing confidential information
  • Perform and follow up on all extra tasks, actions, and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Sales and Director of Marketing
  • Possess the ability to be a Public Ambassador for The Merrill Hotel
  • Work well within a team structure

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

A College degree preferably specializing in hotel/event management or equivalent experience is preferred.

Excellent reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language

One to three years previous hotel experience, preferably in the banquet or event management area OR similar experience in the event planning industry

Strong selling and interpersonal skills

Ability to handle multiple tasks and make decisions in a fast-paced, client-driven environment

Responsive to constructive feedback from hotel leadership
