Description

Hyatt Regency Atlanta Perimeter at Villa Christina is looking for a Chief Engineer to join the management team at our beautiful 182 room Four Diamond hotel!  The ideal candidate will have management experience at a similar size hotel or residential setting and will demonstrate a "lead by example" management style.  We offer a full benefits package including insurance, PTO, holidays, 401(k) with match, employee discounts, and a fantastic CARE culture!  

Purpose:  To oversee, and supervise all aspects of the hotel’s maintenance operations, including public space, guestrooms, kitchen, F&B outlets, laundry, hotel equipment, preventative maintenance programs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, swimming pool, life safety, etc.  This position is involved in OSHA training and other compliance requirements, as well as life-safety systems and procedures. 

Job Responsibilities (others may be assigned):

  • Tours hotel complex and grounds daily identifying items requiring engineering, housekeeping or other departmental actions.
  • Maintains and actively participates (self-assigns rooms to themselves as part of the position responsibilities), in the hotel’s Preventative Maintenance program to ensure all guestrooms meet Pyramid Hotel Group and Hyatt standards for working order at all times.
  • Possesses a complete and working understanding of all building-related systems – Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Life Safety, IT, Garage, Phones, etc.
  • Possesses a complete understanding and completes preventative maintenance and repairs to building and building-related equipment – HVAC, Kitchen, Laundry, Swimming Pool/Fountains, landscaping, irrigation, roofing, etc.
  • “Hands-on” manager, including completing preventative maintenance on guestrooms and hotel building/equipment, repairs on guestrooms and hotel building/equipment, and employing a hands-on training approach with staff.
  • Responds to guest requests and guest maintenance calls for repairs.
  • Completes the duties of a Maintenance Engineer or Security Guard support as needed to ensure department coverage in the event of a planned or unexpected employee absence.
  • Maintains all Engineering spaces (workshop and equipment rooms) in a safe, clean, organized, energy efficient manner.
  • Effectively interview, supervise, train, manage performance, assign tasks and follow-up with Engineering and Security staff to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Serves as the property’s expert on all Life Safety related items and trains managers and hotel employees in these areas. Acts as head of the Safety Committee and works to ensure managers and employees are engaged and focused on safety to prevent workplace accidents. Completes monthly and quarterly safety reporting/maintenance & training requirements.
  • Maintains up-to-date Emergency Procedures and conducts trainings with departments and new hires on Emergency Procedures.
  • Remains calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Actively monitors guest satisfaction scores related to Working Order and ensures that the hotel maintains a score at or above brand requirements.
  • Works within the established Repairs & Maintenance labor and expense budget, utilizing resources efficiently, effectively, and maximizing the number of repairs completed in-house.
  • Provides departmental information and guidance to the Director of Finance for the completion of the annual departmental budget. Submits recommended capital expenditure plan to GM and DOF. 
  • Orders and maintains accurate inventory of supplies following established procurement procedures. Maintains an accurate checkbook and adheres to Accounting procedures regarding invoices, Purchase Orders, etc. 
  • Coordinates capital expenditure projects, including obtaining bids and supplying Director of Finance with the information needed to submit the requests.
  • Maintains accurate records and orderly filing system to support expenditures, PM programs, utility meter readings, capital expenditure projects, life safety systems, blueprints, regulatory inspections and permits. Ensures that hotel is in compliance with all city, state, federal regulations and corporate and brand requirements at all times. 
  • Coaches, counsels and guides all engineering and security staff with appropriate Corrective Counseling documentation as appropriate
  • Completes all 90-day and annual performance evaluations for engineering and security staff.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for management, selection, onboarding, training, development, scheduling, counseling and performance evaluation of the Engineering and Security departments. 

Requirements

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Ability:  The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Vocational schooling, military training, certification and/or experience in building-related trades required in 1 or more of the following areas: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry. 
  • Skilled in several areas such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry, roofing, dry wall, paint, wall vinyl, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration and landscaping.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking and is able to set priorities, plan, organize, delegate, and adapt in a changing environment.
  • Effective leadership skills to motivate and develop team to ensure departmental objectives are accomplished.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate with employees, vendors, guests, and management.
  • Computer literate with regards to Microsoft software as well as hotel operating systems.
  • Has a basic understanding of elementary Accounting procedures.

Education and/or Experience:  High school diploma or equivalent. College degree or courses in engineering-related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years’ hands-on repairs and maintenance management experience at a comparable hotel.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires constant walking and standing. Frequent climbing including up and down extension ladders, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, twisting, reaching, balancing, and walking on uneven surfaces. Occasional sitting in or in an office setting. Work is performed in all areas of the hotel, indoor and outdoor, including but not limited to cramped quarters, areas with dust/dirt, fumes/odors, noise, hot or cold temperatures and in wet or humid areas. Employee must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, be able to work long hours and be able to handle stressful conditions.
