Description

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Vice President (SVP), Marketing leads strategic marketing matters with a current emphasis on brand strategy, brand management, public relations, strategic philanthropy, and strategic communications. The SVP, Marketing is a key leader, driving innovation and loyalty through positive brand association and communications as well as overseeing other reputation- enhancing functions for the Tribal Community and the Tribe’s economic development opportunities beyond San Manuel Casino.

The SVP, Marketing leads the Vice Presidents of Brand Marketing and Entertainment, Tribal Brand Marketing and Strategic Initiatives, and Strategic Communications as well as their respective verticals. This position is accountable for marketing efforts, and multimedia execution including campaigns and programs that are in alignment with the Tribal brand standards. The SVP, Marketing champions the goals and priorities of the Tribe in a manner that faithfully reflects and upholds the Tribal Community’s vision, mission, and values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides strategic insight, direction, and oversight to ensure a successful execution of strategic plans.  Monitors tribal marketing plans for the Tribal Community and other economic development opportunities to ensure consistency with the strategic vision of San Manuel.

2. Oversees the leadership responsible for Tribal marketing programs and directs strategies and tactics to increase awareness, visibility and brand recognition.  Leads and aligns all verticals reporting to the SVP to ensure a consistent message is delivered.

3. Directs the leadership in Tribal brand marketing, sponsorship and entertainment strategies to ensure alignment with portfolio marketing activities. 

4. Guides the leadership in planning and implementing of strategic communications and programs with community non-profit and civic organizations, news media, industry coalitions,

relevant special interest groups, influencers, the public and other target audiences.

5. Reviews the overall execution plan to build awareness and credibility for San Manuel Band of Mission Indians brand while simultaneously establishing the Tribe as a modern visionary that remains true to their core values.

6. Oversees the leadership who develops, creates and maintains the Tribal and Internal communications programs and channels, to keep tribal citizens, team members and their families informed of news, events and accomplishments.  Ensures Tribal citizens, officials and team members, as needed are prepared for any interactions with the media and the public, including speech writing.

7. Directs leadership responsible for organizational media relations plans and strategies, including the development and management of press relations, media advisories, announcements, community bulletins, editorial placements, speeches, talking points, communications messaging, Q & A’s, speaking opportunities and supporting materials to targeted audiences. 

8. Encourages the use of emerging technology, digital media, and social networking to reach new customers and build relationships with existing customers, while supporting and understanding other perspectives held by the Tribal Government and external stakeholders, with the intent to activate awareness and build a robust level of support at the local level.

9. Serves as a principle change agent to drive brand understanding and process management by developing and providing a macro-level strategic direction on the execution and utilization of enterprise key messages.

10. Evaluates budgets, performance measures, monitors results, drives accountability, and performance while leading teams to continuous improvements in outcomes.

11. Serves as collaborative partner to provide alignment, consistency and efficiency in enterprise-wide brand and new markets, in order to ensure alignment with SMC and other diversification projects are establishing the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians as an employer of choice.

12. Assumes other responsibilities, duties, tasks and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to any public health emergency.

13. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Management, Public Relations or related field is required.

  • Master’s degree in a related field is highly preferred.

  • Minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in consumer branding and digital marketing is required.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years supervisory experience at the executive level is preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of senior level experience in consumer branding and digital marketing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with California Native American tribal governments, entities, and communities, is preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

  • Must be culturally competent and effective in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Must be able to prioritize work product to align with Tribal strategies.

  • Must be skilled and experienced in crisis management issues and reputation management.

  • Must be able to handle public relations issues and crises in a calm, organized and professional manner.

  • Must possess superior writing and editing skills that support the requirements of the Associated Press.

  • Must be able to influence and adapt communications to diverse audiences.

  • Effective at presenting information and responding to questions and/or concerns from management, staff, customers, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or the Business Committee.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills required with good motivational and collaboration emphasis; communicates change effectively, overcomes resistance and builds commitment.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate in a clear, friendly and positive manner with internal and external guests.

  • Experience driving customer engagement, managing functions, teams or departments.

  • Experience in leading teams of all levels including influencing others in a highly complex enterprise.

  • Must be a creative innovator, strategic thinker, planner and executor and be able to successfully build or be intimately familiar with all enterprise matters.

  • Ability to formulate and deliver crisp strategic and operations messages while being culturally sensitive to the audience.

  • This position requires an individual with highly developed maturity and impeccable communication skills.

  • Must be personable and professional, capable of using caution and discretion in communication.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
