Description

The Learning and Development Specialist designs and develops new learning programs and keeps existing program enhanced/current to include; lesson plan, learning deck,  learning aids and activities. Learning programs may include topics such as leadership skill development, supervisory/management training, guest service, specific work skills, competency development, team building, and communication. Delivers company learning programs and workshops to team members and managers. Works with assigned organizational division of the company. Monitors the effectiveness of learning objectives on team members using individual or group performance results. Collects feedback on learning sessions from attendees to use for future improvements to content and provide return on investment.

  • Practice, support and promote the Mission, Vision and Values of Muckleshoot Casino
  • Work varied shifts to include, nights, overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborate with management, team members and subject matter experts to develop, enhance, and/or evaluate existing or new learning objectives & course content materials (i.e., course guides, coursework, notebooks, activities, discussions etc.)
  • Work with assigned business division for the purpose of learning the functionality of each section and shift of that division.  Build partnerships within division and provide collaborative learning insights to assist in on-boarding new team members, continuous skill improvements for all division team members and identifying needed just in time learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate New Hire Orientation as scheduled and provide facilitation for other learning programs offered by Talent Development.
  •  Write, review, evaluate, and modify new or existing learning materials.
  • Utilize creativity in the creation of learning materials, aids, and tools to drive results.
  • Analyze effectiveness of learning execution toward meeting objectives and exercises flexibility in continual improvement in the achievement of objectives.
  • Assist in assessing and documenting division and organizational needs, including specific learning requirements and development needs.
  • Assist Human Resources and other departments with documenting departmental support issues and needs.
  • Assist any manager, supervisor or team member in identifying learning content to assist in improving skills or other identified learning needs.
  • Provide a system of feedback, coaching, mentoring, networking, and peer assessment.
  • Monitor current trends in learning, both internally and externally, to identify best practices in adult learning and development.
  • Assist and works on specific projects under the direction of the Talent Development Manager.
  • Research and assists in planning and organizing learning programs.  Scope of these responsibilities include preparing and distributing learning aids; contacting attendees, department managers and supervisors; scheduling training room, defining needs for physical set-up or ensures physical set-up is completed and correct; formulates learning outlines and determines best instructional method; ability to measure progress and effectiveness of learning tracks delivered.
  • Perform quality reviews of curriculum content and materials, making changes as needed to support continuous learning improvement.
  • Provide input to Talent Development Manager/Supervisor for strategic and budget planning with regard to the learning and development function.
  • Maintain accurate records including training request, training provided, attendance records, and expense tracking.
  • Create, maintain and facilitate a positive work environment.
  • Smile and engage Guests and Team Members with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, education, organizational development, training and development or a closely related field required. 
  • Extensive (+8 years) experience as training or talent development specialist for a large population may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in training and development, adult learning techniques, instructional design and/or related hospitality field within required.
  • Two (2) years content design, development, implementation, and evaluation for learning programs experience required.
  • Gaming experience preferred.

Specific Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Work varied shifts to include, nights, overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of foundational and modern principles of adult learning techniques, development and facilitation skills appropriated for promoting different types of interactive and experiential learning.
  • Proven advanced knowledge of modern principles of adult learning techniques, development and facilitation.
  • Demonstrate exceptional written and oral communication, including classroom facilitation and presentations. Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Proven advanced knowledge of learning assessment, design development, implementation and evaluation, using various media options.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge and skills of MS Office Suite applications, learning management system, and implementation of effective programming and related documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to design and deliver high quality learning programs.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal relationship skills development.
  • Demonstrate effective project management skills.
  • Proven knowledge of coaching techniques.
  • Demonstrate advanced facilitation techniques and methods with a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with and maintain confidential materials and information.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with various multi-media equipment.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills to include determination of advantageous solutions, and resolutions.
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient organizational skills, including planning, multi-tasking, time management and follow-through.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform at the highest level in a deadline driven, high volume, and high stress environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively accept and provide feedback.
  • Demonstrate ability to work efficiently under limited supervision.

Licenses or Certifications

  • ATD Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CLCP) certification preferred.
  • SHRM Certification preferred.

Onsite Test Required

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must complete the required testing no later than two (2) business days after the posting close date at the Human Resources Office.

About Us

The Muckleshoot Tribe is part of the widespread Coast Salish culture that has long called the Puget Sound Region home. The Muckleshoots and their ancestors have lived in the area continuously for thousands of years. Prior to their forced relocation to the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation,a result of the government treaty of the 1850’s,the Tribes homeland encompassed a vast area ranging from Mount Rainier to the salt waters of Puget Sound.
 
As with their Coast Salish neighbors, the salmon plays a central role in the economic, social, spiritual and ceremonial life of the Muckleshoot people. In recent years the Tribe has been at the forefront of efforts to protect endangered salmon runs, elk herds, and other natural resources. Education is also a top priority. The Muckleshoot Tribal School and the Muckleshoot Tribal College, along with a wide array of related programs, help to ensure that todays Muckleshoot youth will be well prepared to guide the Tribe when it is their turn to lead.
 
The Tribe is also striving to preserve its ancient culture and language. A few years ago, it was feared that the last of the Tribes native speakers would soon pass from this Earth. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of its educators and Tribal Elders, the voices of the children can once again be heard speaking Wuhlshootseed, which for a millennia was the primary language of Puget Sound. The Muckleshoot Indian Reservation, consisting of 3,860 acres,is located about 30 miles southeast of Seattle. A nine member elected Tribal Council provides governance for the Tribe.
