About This Job

Summary/Objective

EMS Provider is responsible for the safety of guests, associates, vendors, and contractors in all aquatic and dry attractions, public area, convention center, resort rooms, student housing, parking lots and other resort property while on duty; applying life-saving skills and first aid to any person(s) who is in need.

Essential Functions

  • Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, safety guidelines and training programs for all waterpark venues.
  • Apply lifesaving skills and first aid to any guest/associate who is in need quickly.
  • Maintain the high standards set forth by the National Aquatics Safety Company and the Kalahari safety procedures through leading by example and supporting all staff members.
  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and safe and are given responsive, friendly, and courteous service at all times.
  • Fully understand and comply with all Federal, State, County and Municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of waterpark outlets/venues, associates and guests.
  • Participate in Daily Promise shift meetings and when needed conduct in-service meetings as regulated by NASCO and American Red Cross.
  • Participate in scheduled trainings set forth by the EMS Provider Assistant Manager.
  • Make sure all incident and rescue reports are filled out properly and that all guest injuries are checked on with the proper Kalahari protocol.
  • Ensure follow up checks with injured guests if a report was completed for the incident.
  • Manage and stock all first aid kits throughout the resort.
  • Inventory, inspect, manage and stock all trauma bags throughout the resort (including daily checks).
  • Work all schedules set forth, no changes can be made without first notifying the Waterpark Manager and/or EMS Provider Assistant Manager.
  • When an emergency requires calling 911, follow Emergency Action Plan; which includes immediately notifying all pertinent people as outlined.
  • All emergency equipment should be tested prior to each shift and documented as well as all supplies need to be in place at the first aid station.
  • When applicable, ensure all infectious waste is removed appropriately.
  • Assist with guest incident concerns and advise supervisors/managers when needed.
  • Walk through waterpark, locker rooms, first aid office and break rooms frequently inspecting for a clean and safe environment.
  • Walk through entire resort inspecting for clean and safe environment at least once per shift.
  • When applicable, ensure that the infectious debris is removed appropriately.
  • Periodically check in with resort staff to ensure compliancy with safety rules and regulations.
  • Report all incidents and accidents to the leadership team in the department in which they have occurred.
  • Keep an open line of communication with all departments and keep them posted on what is happening in the department as much as possible without compromising HIPAA Laws and Regulations.
  • Continually maintain communication with EMS/Safety Assistant Manager.
  • Maintain communication about on-going incidents with Corporate First Aid & Safety Manager.
  • Check sharps containers for damage and if full, weekly.

  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the issues raised by Associates, Supervisors, Department Heads, Senior Management, and guests.
  • Ability to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems exercising good judgment.
  • Make independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger. Collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment that is constantly changing based on room occupancy, group and local business.
  • Must have the ability to efficiently and accurately present information in on-on-one or small group situations to guests, clients, other associates and/or corporate executives of the resort.
  • Must maintain composure and integrity while under pressure.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in an active and loud environment. Frequent changes in environment and temperature. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to move frequently throughout the large facilities.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to frequently walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull up to 100 pounds of force, and/or frequently move up to 50 pounds of force, or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Special vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, part-time, or seasonal position, with various work hours and days, based on business needs. This position regularly requires evening, weekend and holiday work. This position is eligible for overtime pay.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate or GED required
  • Lifeguard certification would be a plus. Experience working in a large resort or recreational/waterpark venue is helpful.
  • Current First Aid Certificate required including Oxygen usage and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). Candidates may be required to have current EMT (basic, Intermediate, Paramedic) State Registry and the Medical Advisor must approve for their licensure before hiring is approved -- dependent upon site location.
