Reports to:           Controller

Hours:                   8 am-5pm; Monday- Friday, may involve working odd hours and weekends

Position Summary

Supervise the daily accounting operations and staff ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, recommend and conduct performance reviews, discipline, resolve problems, provide open communications as appropriate. Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure financial information is available and accurate.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Play an ongoing role in the creation, execution and refinement of profitable financial strategies designed to maximize opportunities for La Fonda, while also ensuring excellence in the Company's day-to-day financial accounting, reporting, analytical and planning functions, as well as the integration of best practices.
  • Along with the Controller, create an accountable, communicative, team-oriented environment, striving to achieve and exceed expectations.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other department managers across various functional lines to build and maintain productive relationships.
  • Oversee timely daily revenue postings and update A/R and A/P entries.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and resolve differences as necessary.
  • Ensure cash is being reconciled on a daily basis.
  • Process credit card transactions and print reports for same.
  • Lead the assessment and implementation of financial controls necessary to safeguard the property's assets.
  • Assist Controller in making specific recommendations that will result in revenue enhancement, cost reductions and/or profit improvement to the Hotel overall. Conduct related analyses as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Controller, General Manager and operations team to prepare the property operating budgets, capital budgets, forecasts and business plans.
  • Assist the Controller with cash flow forecasting by providing accurate, daily information regarding cash.
  • Interface actively with all departments to identify areas for revenue enhancement, cost savings, process improvement, improved communication flow and/or necessity for documentation of policies/procedures.
  • Ensure full knowledge of all job responsibilities of the Accounting Department enabling proper training and support in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, income audit, payroll and general cashier.
  • Act at General Cashier to the hotel and maintain a balanced vault.
  • Prepare and distributes Daily Report to General Manager, Department Heads and Board of Directors
  • Order change from the bank
  • Reconcile bank counts, post monthly AJE’s, record cost of goods sold.
  • Supervise Accounting for capital expenditures
  • Scan checks for daily deposits and shred checks once a month
  • Handle guest, client, and department billing inquiries in a timely manner, with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Monitor all hotel inventories with rotating participants
  • Be willing and knowledgeable enough to perform tasks in all areas.
  • Perform other jobs as needed and/or requested by management

Job Specifications:

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

This job involves accurate counting and accounting skills

Person must be able to communicate clearly in English, and use all computer programs effectively – Outlook, Excel, Maestro, Great Plains, Word, ADP, etc.

Must be able to read, write, speak, have good vision, be accurate and detailed.

Education Required:

4 years of college education (accounting preferred) or equivalent of education/experience. Minimum 2 years of management experience.
