About This Job

The Accounting and Compliance specialist is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the accounting operations. They are responsible for the operational success and direction of all departments on property. The specialist financial steward of the property and is responsible for financial analysis and for putting controls in place to ensure that all properties are compliant with corporate policies and procedures.

Job Description:

  • Approve all employee company credit card expenses based on HWV travel and usage policies. Ensure all expenses are correctly coded.
  • Manage PCI compliance tasks including, but not limited to, annual questionnaires, quarterly system scans, and new property profile buildouts.
  • Work alongside HWV IT department to strengthen property PCI compliance and conduct routine training for all new hires and continuing education for all staff.
  • Manage and respond to all credit card company chargebacks in a timely manner, working with the property team to investigate and resolve claims.

Perform property internal audits on property cash management practices, invoice workflows, and inventory procedures.

  • Complete daily accounting revenue checking each property system prior to approving the batch for upload.
  • Complete daily revenue posting from the property system to a revenue workbook, ensuring revenue is coded to the correct general ledger account.
  • Compile and send out daily and weekly revenue reports to senior management including all division financials in one streamlined rollup.
  • Compile and send out quarterly reporting on properties’ return on cash, budget versus actual performance, historical cash flow, debt repayment and projected cash flow.
  • Reconcile property management system outstanding balances report and follow up with properties to ensure debt collection.
  • Approve coding of property expense invoices and send invoices to accounts payable.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all property county tax laws and ensure compliance.
  • Create new revenue workbooks upon the onboarding or opening of a new entity.
  • Setup new entities with credit card processing, batch management, and chargeback accounts.
  • Conduct an audit of monthly profit and lost statement and submit reclasses when miscoded invoices are uncovered.
  • Research, provide explanation for, adjust and proactively train against all variances between the property management system and the property bank deposits.
  • Assist with proactive audits between the property management system and the property’s bank.
  • Provide monthly report and commentary of financial results with detailed analysis.
  • Analyze and report the variance between budgeted and actual expenses.
  • Proactively improve the accounting processes and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial accounting across the company.
  • Performs other duties, including: serve on HWV corporate committees, travel to attend corporate meetings, complete projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a finance, accounting or business-related field.
  • 3+ years hospitality accounting experience.
  • Training skills, must have the ability to assess skill level of employees and modify training as needed.
  • Strong mentoring skills: must have the ability to mentor employees through role modeling, supervision and feedback.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor
  • Proficient computer skills, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Understands and consistently adheres to all Highway West Vacations policies and procedures as outlined in company policy and procedure documents.
  • Understands and consistently adheres to personal job responsibilities, standards of performance, and reporting structure, as outlined in job description and standards of performance documents.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States


  • Education: Degree Preferred; Business Administration, Hospitality, Finance, Accounting Preferred
  • Minimum Job-Related Experience: 3 year - 4 years
  • Skills – Writing: Frequently writes lengthy non-standard reports and analysis
  • Skills – Computer: Uses a variety of advanced and basic programs to perform responsibilities including data management and analysis
