About This Job

A Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Technician is primarily responsible for providing quality water throughout the indoor and outdoor waterpark. This includes maintain the pool cleanliness, water balance, temperature, operational costs, guest service satisfaction and safety.

Education Requirements

A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a hotel/resort, waterpark, theme park, construction, or related field in maintenance; or a 2-year college degree and 2 or more years of related experience.   

Previous Experience Required

Have knowledge of pool heating systems, plumbing, building and all facility maintenance.  Have knowledge of waterpark circulation and filtration objectives for daily operations for a Waterpark or leisure/vacation venue.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the ride manufacturer’s preventative maintenance programs.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county and municipal regulations that pertain to rides safety, inspections, and yearly inspection with all authorities.
  • Monitor and ensure that the pools are kept in the correct chemical balance.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all pools for both indoor and outdoor waterparks.
  • Maintain and accurately record computerized journals of all readings in the pools.
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisor to ensure that all waterpark rides are inspected daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Assist with the waterpark appearance, making sure all areas are clean, neat, organized, sanitized and safe.


  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to adapt to a broad range of customer interactions, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Make independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information.

Physical Demands

Possible heavy workloads; exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or other wise move objects.  Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching involved.  Must be able to work in warm/humid settings and hot/humid weather for indoor and outdoor waterpark environments. Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
