Montauk, New York-based Navy Beach Restaurant is expanding and looking to add an experienced bartender our growing food + beverage team in the Caribbean. This is a great opportunity to join a team of hospitality professionals with excellent room for growth.

Navy Beach, St. Thomas is the first venture from Navy Beach Hospitality outside of the continental United States, and the first of several Caribbean-based projects to open over the next few years, including Navy Beach St. Maarten, opening late 2021 at the IGY Isle de Sol Yacht Club, in Simpson Bay. 

The restaurant is located in a prime waterfront space at the sprawling IGY Marina at Yacht Haven Grande, in Charlotte Amalie.

Bartender Job Description

The Bartender is in charge of managing drink orders to keep guests satisfied during meals or other visits to the Restaurant.   The Bartender must have extensive knowledge of classic cocktails, the Restaurant’s specialty cocktails, spirits, wine, and beer which they use to recommend drinks to guests, prepare cocktails, pour beers and properly serve wines.  The Bartender also entertains guests who sit at the bar by providing stimulating conversation and excellent customer service while filling drink orders for other guests. Their role is to ensure that guests are of legal drinking age and then prepare a requested drink to their specifications.  The bartender is also responsible for making sure they do not serve any guests that appear intoxicated.

DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS

  • Verify identification and age requirements of customers
  • Mix traditional and creative cocktails
  • Process payment from guests
  • Clean glasses and bar utensils
  • Make suggestions based on guest’s tastes and preferences
  • Record and balance cash receipts and prepare cash deposits
  • Open and maintain tabs throughout their shift
  • Build a rapport with regular guests to create a positive atmosphere
  • Handling cleaning of the bar and bar storage areas at the close of day
  • Completing all assigned side work before and after the shift to ensure a consistent level of preparedness and cleanliness

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a craft cocktail or high-volume bar/restaurant
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Be of legal age to serve alcohol
  • Excellent customer service and people skills
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, wines, and beers
  • Understanding of unique and complementary flavor pairings
  • Impeccable customer service and social perceptiveness
  • Ability to evaluate customer satisfaction and responsiveness
  • Ability to enforce company policies regarding the consumption of alcohol
  • Accountability in maintaining inventory and processing payments
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • High level of stamina to work on feet for extended periods of time
  • Open availability including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
