Montauk, New York-based Navy Beach Restaurant is expanding and looking to add experienced line cooks to our growing food + beverage team in the Caribbean. This is a great opportunity to join a team of hospitality professionals with excellent room for growth.

Navy Beach, St. Thomas is the first venture from Navy Beach Hospitality outside of the continental United States, and the first of several Caribbean-based projects to open over the next few years, including Navy Beach St. Maarten, opening late 2021 at the IGY Isle de Sol Yacht Club, in Simpson Bay. 

The restaurant is located in a prime waterfront space at the sprawling IGY Marina at Yacht Haven Grande, in Charlotte Amalie.

Line Cook Job Description

The Line Cook prepares food using recipes and menu items created by the Executive Chef and help keep the kitchen running smoothly. They also typically complete smaller preparation tasks like butchering meat/fish, mixing sauces, or prepping vegetables.  Line Cooks are often assigned a certain task each time they work and will stay in that section of the food preparation line for a majority of their shift.   The Line Cook is responsible for cleaning their prep station and making sure it is set up properly before the start of their shift, they also stock the kitchen as directed by Kitchen Management.   Line Cooks must regularly check the food prep and storage areas to ensure they don’t violate any health codes or safety regulations.

DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS

  • Prepare all menu items following recipes and yield guides, according to Executive Chef/ Kitchen Manager’s standards in a time efficient manner
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of food service and storage facilities
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment and tools only as intended, properly and safely
  • Set up workstation with required mise en place, tools, equipment and supplies according to standards set by the Executive Chef
  • Check production schedule and pars and establish priority items for the day
  • Restock items that were depleted during the shift
  • Communicate with Front of House to manage timing of courses, any guest feedback, etc.
  • Work as a team player—support and assist your fellow team members whenever possible
  • Ensure company policies, procedures and brand standards are always followed
  • Follow Health & Safety and Food Safety standards
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of line cook experience in a similar environment
  • Excellent kitchen administration knowledge
  • Average knife skills
  • Strong organization and active listening skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50lbs
  • High level of stamina to work on feet for extended periods of time
  • Open availability including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
