About This Job

As Director of Human Resources at our luxury hotel, you will create and nurture a hotel environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork and a passion for providing service.  You will be responsible for all HR administration at the hotel, including but not limited to recruiting, staffing, payroll and benefits administration, compliance, employee relations, and training.

Role Responsibility

  • Celebrate and foster decisions that result in successes.  Support the GM in the effort to ensure the Company culture is experienced by associates at the hotel.   
  • Ensure compliance with all CA state and federal laws which pertain to Human Resource administration; review current management practices, implement new procedures, and communicate any new requirements with the Corporate Office as well as the hotel staff.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and onboard hotel staff, ensuring hotel hiring practices comply with federal and state mandates.
  • Operate and manage HR systems: ADP, benefits administration, COBRA, Form I9, 401k, etc.
  • Be highly visible and available to all hotel staff throughout the hotel.
  • Design and facilitate New Hire Orientation for all associates of the hotel.
  • Promote both Guarantee of Fair Treatment and Open Door policies.
  • Complete and maintain Form I-9s to ensure compliance.
  • Manage all FMLA, STD, and other leave requests, ensuring compliance.
  • Manage all workers compensation injuries and claims processes, ensuring compliance.
  • Maintain all state and federal requirements relating to associates, ensuring compliance.
  • Identify and manage associate training programs for hotel staff, and encourage a learning environment for all hotel staff.
  • Remain vigilant to associate concerns and/or issues, and immediately communicate any issues or associate concerns to the GM or Corporate Office.  Support GM and/or department heads in an effort to resolve conflicts and/or associate issues in a fair and compliant manner.
  • Create and administer Associate reward & recognition programs.
  • Extend professionalism and courtesy to hotel guests and take a proactive approach when dealing with hotel guest concerns.  Follow property specific second effort and recovery plan.
  • Prepare annual budget forecasts for the Human Resource Department.
  • Complete daily and monthly reports requested by Corporate Office.


  • 5+ years Human Resources leadership experience required
  • Knowledge and experience with California State laws pertaining to HR
  • Hospitality experience preferred
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Strong analytical, problem solving & organization skills
  • Able to multitask in demanding environment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends and Holidays
