Strategic Intent

It is the intent of this position that the incumbent will assist the Director of Human Resources in managing and developing Human Resources strategies in conjunction with company and property objectives; ensure policies, procedures and HR programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals and are in compliance with professional standards, state and federal regulatory requirements and laws.


Scope of Position

The Assistant Director of Human Resources provides practical, consistent and proactive support; direction and advice to department managers on Human Resources procedures, policy and best practices to ensure the goals and objectives of the hotel are met. The position has responsibility and oversight of the Recruitment and Selection process, and will partner with Director of Human Resources on all Team Member Relation and Labor Relation matters.


Organizational Structure

The Assistant Director of Human Resources will report directly to the Director of Human Resources.


Duties and Supporting Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership and direction throughout the hotel in support of Waldorf Astoria and Hilton commitment to provide an environment that treats Team Members with dignity, respect and fairness


  • Proactively resolve issues with managers, identify practical solutions to complex and diverse HR issues, and recommend appropriate action


  • Facilitate the performance management process and provide guidance and feedback in areas of strength or areas of opportunity based on the prior performance reviews and coaching’s


  • Assist the Director of Human Resources in conducting internal investigations; maintain accurate and complete records of investigation; develop solutions to resolve issue(s)


  • Assist in maintaining and updating the hotel property Policies & Procedures, Colleague Handbook and/or contractual agreements; coordinate the communication and distribution of these guidelines, policies and/or procedures


  • Oversee monthly HR Metric Scorecard to include input of Team Member relation issues, workers compensation, recruitment and turnover statistics; analyze trends and turnover


  • Foster performance Coaching philosophy for the company.  Create step-by-step program partnered with philosophical rationale to create a fair and consistent management approach to Team Member Relations; communicate and train departments on philosophy and expectations


  • Requires high level of interaction with all members of staff.  Exchanging ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate resolution of policies and procedures and/or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions or solutions


  • Maintain unemployment compliance, participate in unemployment hearings, and prepare witnesses for testimony as necessary


  • Maintain awareness and prevention of union activity for company; partner with Director of Human Resources and outside council to develop appropriate action


  • Knowledgeable of property CBA; communicate and train department heads and managers on CBA policies


  • Oversee the coordination, strategy and execution of all recruitment activities including the sourcing and selection of qualified candidates in partnership with department heads and Executive Committee member


  • Oversee all employment related activities to include, offers of employment, onboarding, relocation and required new hire paperwork


  • Manage current and impending immigration and Visa legal requirements as well as related communication and expenses


  • Facilitate resolution of Team Member Relation issues to include drug testing, background checks and partnering with departments to provide proactive coaching to all Team Members, as well as assist with required developmental plans or terminations


  • Maintain Team Member Relations Log; monitor for trends to identify any areas of concern; identify problematic areas, trends and turnover


  • Ensure all termination paperwork is properly completed (i.e. exit interview, return of all hotel issued property, locker inventory, etc.  and the HRI System is updated accordingly to reflect separation of employment


  • Oversee property departmental Focus Group program and subsequent follow up action plans


  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget process


  • Assist and drive Team Member recognition/engagement programs to include TWStar, holiday parties and celebrations


  • Monitor Workers Compensation process and procedure; maintain related tracking and documents; liaise with third party administrator as necessary


  • Process, in conjunction with Legal, legal requests from federal, state or private entities including, but not limited to, wage garnishments, subpoenas, and release of information requests


  • Actively participate in the delivery and coordination of Team Member Engagement Survey including all follow up action plans


  • Assist in the development of middle management Team Members through regular feedback coaching sessions and Learning and Development opportunities


  • Assist Director of Human Resources with strategic planning and implementation of Human Resources initiatives


  • Ensure security and confidentiality of all pertinent information throughout the hotel including all Human Resources related information


  • Ability to present themselves with an uplifting personality as well as maintaining a high degree of confidentially


  • Maintain awareness and prevention of labor relation activity for the property. Work with the Director of Human Resources, General Manager, VP Human Resources, Americas and Legal to seek complete understanding of situation and take approved action as deemed necessary


  • Responsible for identifying any potential liable situation and reacting in accordance to determined solution


  • Assist with all Human Resources activities and projects as needed






  • Ability to sustain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times

  • Bachelors Degree in Hospitality or Human Resources Management

  • A minimum of 5-7 years in Human Resources management

  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and projects with a strong sense of urgency in achieving established goals and objectives

  • Aptitude to prioritize and complete assignments in a timely manner; effective follow through

  • Demonstrated proactive leadership style; self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a team-focused environment

  • Pragmatic problem solving skills

  • Ability to convey and communicate difficult and challenging information to Team Members and Managers

  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work

  • Ability to develop and mentor subordinates

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both verbal and written form

  • Requires high levels of interaction with all members of staff.  Exchanging ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate policy and procedures and/or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions or solutions

  • Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment

  • Understands the business, contributes to the strategy and manages vision and purpose

  • Excellent demeanor, poise and represents the brand well



  • Bi-lingual communication a plus but not required
