The Ideal Candidate for this Position

The Area Director of Finance is responsible for directing the accounting and control functions while ensuring timely financial reports and integrity of systems. They will provide management with accurate, timely, and relevant financial data and be the primary holder of the budgets working closely with the Executive Team. This position is based at the Marriott in downtown Hartford and includes oversight of the accounting and finance teams at the Marriott as well as Hilton in Hartford, CT, and the Sheraton at Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, CT.

  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Provide other members of senior management with analysis of information and prospective decisions based on data obtained from Accounting and operating results
  • Engage with stakeholders on an informal and formal basis
  • Provide status on the financial condition of Marriott, Hilton and Sheraton by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data
  • Monitor and analyze capital and operating budgets, including monthly financial analyses, monthly forecasting, annual planning, and cash forecasting
  • Oversee in the design and development of internal control procedures to safeguard company assets. 
  • Design and implement cost savings solutions
  • Coordination of year end financial statements for auditors and tax accountants. 
  • Strong understanding of tax regulations and reporting requirements
  • Provide strategic advice based on analyzing trends in the operation and financial performance of the company
  • Communicate results of analytical review in verbal and written presentations
  • Review and prepare monthly financial results, forecasts, and externally required financial reports
  • Manage the planning and administration of the annual budget processes including detailed review of property budget submissions


  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in the hospitality industry
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail essential
  • Highly analytical, have the ability to think creatively, and to understand complex business dynamics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline oriented environment
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Excel, Word and email.
  • Must be able to pass a drug and background check


  • MBA and/or CPA
  • Strong understanding of tax regulations and reporting requirements
  • Experience with Profit Sword, Profit Sage and Timberline accounting systems desirable
  • Prior experience working in the hospitality industry; (hotel, travel destination etc.)
  • Ability to develop and train associates and managers
  • Understanding of Legal and Contract review
