Basic Function

Oversees the day-to-day activities for the Facilities Department. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and for assisting with all engineering functions and maintenance at The Club, including staff oversight, building structure, building systems, equipment, athletic facilities, hotel, restaurants, kitchen, and parking facilities. 

Objective / Accountability

  • Ensure that building is maintained in optimum working condition by implementing regular maintenance programs and manage preventive measures.
  • Manage work order process by reviewing and prioritizing work orders and assign work among engineers and maintenance staff, carpenter, and painter as needed. Ensure that work is done properly and timely.
  • With the Director of Facilities, contact and receive bids from outside contractors. Ensure that work is done accurately and completely.
  • Prepare purchase orders for equipment and maintain adequate inventories of supplies, machinery, and electrical parts.
  • Participate on LAAC Safety committee.
  • Work with the Director of Facilities to fill vacant positions within the department, and conduct skills inventory as needed to fill skill gaps within the department.
  • Manage employee performance by supervising, train, coaching and disciplining as appropriate.
  • Manage employee schedules, requests for time off, and approve all employee time cards.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Supervision Exercised

  • Assists with hiring, training, and disciplining engineers, maintenance workers, carpenters, and painters.

Supervision Received

  • Reports directly to the Director of Facilities.

Responsibility and Authority

  • Employee Relations: You are responsible to maintain helpful and cooperative relations with members and guests. Has authority to approve and deny time off. May recommend discipline to Director of Facilities and Human Resources.
  • Materials or Products: Responsible for the custody, repair, maintenance of the building, boilers, chillers, co-generator, equipment, and tools.
  • Contacts: Members, guests, vendors, and employees.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Equivalent Education Level: 2 year college education or vocational training required.
  • Licenses/Certifications: A valid steam engineer license issued by The City of Los Angeles for 500 horsepower or greater is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of maintenance, refrigeration, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years general maintenance experience in building maintenance facilities that operate a steam boiler.  3 to 5 years in performing general maintenance duties such as light electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC.  Supervisory experience desired but not required.
  • Essential Functions: Must be able to inspect all areas of the building. This requires walking, climbing, crawling, walking stairs, bending, etc.  Must be able to communicate (verbal and written) with co-workers, members, outside workers.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
