What will I be doing? As the Senior Lead Data Engineer, you will apply your technical and business ability to transform raw data into useful data systems. You will build a data architecture that supports Analytics, Data Science, Software Engineering, and our Compliance/Regulatory functions' ability to build and optimize products that will position Hilton as an innovative industry leader along with ensuring the appropriate protection of our data. 

More specifically, you will:

  • Assist team members in understanding work scope, assessing impact, and estimating work effort
  • Acquire and use business knowledge by taking advantage of available resources to develop and champion data solutions that allow our partners to craft sophisticated and innovative solutions to support customer, marketing, loyalty, and management initiatives
  • Lead by example to Develop ETL data pipelines to transform and process data between multiple data zones
  • Develop repeatable and reusable data pipelines as part of the data lake and data warehouse framework(s)
  • Build and document business logic used to create project design specifications
  • Define, implement, and support the testing and acceptance of these solutions to ensure they follow Hilton standards and provide the appropriate controls and safeguards to ensure the quality and security of our data
  • Transition the final solutions to our Operations team for ongoing support by defining standard operating procedures and conducting knowledge transfer sessions
  • Solving production defects and assisting the Operations team with short-term mitigation strategies, while you develop and implement a long-term solution

Requirements

What are we looking for? We believe the success in this role will demonstrate itself through the following attributes and skills:

  • Hands-on experience developing ETL jobs (batch and real-time) for structured and unstructured data using Scala, Apache Spark, Hive, Apache Pig, Apache Kafka, MapReduce, AWS Data Pipeline, AWS Glue, AWS EMR, Talend, and/or Informatica
  • Hands-on experience in import and export structured RDBMS and unstructured NoSQL database data using Apache Sqoop, Spark, Scala, and Java
  • Hands-on experience in Hive, AWS Redshift, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, My SQL, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience in RDBMS and Columnar databases including strong SQL
  • Experience in performance tuning the database for large data sets
  • Quick learner of new technologies and expansion of skills
  • Experience with modern Agile development methodologies (e.g. SAFe)
  • Experience in requirement gathering, analysis, design, code review, and Unit, and Integration testing
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks and defining test cases
  • Experience implementing solutions in of Data-Lake, Warehouse, Marts, and Master Data environments
  • Deliver maintenance and improvements for existing software or packaged applications
  • Great teammate, interested in sharing knowledge with other team members, and shows interest in learning new technologies.
  • Strong critical thinking skills ownership mentality and continuous learning
  • High level of accuracy in work and attention to detail

To fulfill this role successfully, you should demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years of professional experience in Technology or related field
  • Six (6) years of software/platform design and implementation experience
  • Six (6) years of experience with SQL and/or No-SQL databases
  • Two (2) years of experience with Big Data technologies and platforms including but not limited to AWS, Hadoop, Redshift, Scala, Talend Cloud, Informatica Cloud, Spark, and Hive
  • Two (2) years of experience with at least one of the ETL tools (e.g. Talend Cloud, Informatica Cloud, SSIS)

It would be useful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate’s Degree plus 6 years of Technology related experience, or High School Degree/GED plus 12 years of Technology related experience
  • Exposure to technologies such as Spark, Spark-SQL, Data Frame, Pair RDD's, Spark YARN
  • Any Licenses or Certifications or Trainings in AWS, Talend, or Informatica
  • Knowledge of the Hospitality, Financial, or Sales areas
  • Experience in Microsoft ASP, .Net, Visual Basic .Net, C#.Net, Java, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular
