The iconic Hotel del Coronado is looking for a talented Director of Events to lead this incredible team! It's an exciting time to join the resort with a recently completed $400 million dollar renovation project.

Located on Coronado Island just minutes from Downtown San Diego, this 28-acre property was built in 1888 and has over 700 rooms (to include cottages and villas), 96,000 square feet of meeting space, and 12 food and beverage outlets. This includes 4 restaurants, 2 bars, food truck, marketplace, ice cream shop, and in-room dining.

Position Statement:

Strategic leadership of the team responsible for the successful servicing of confirmed Group programs (meetings and conferences).  Responsible for revenue maximization and control of meeting and food and beverage expenses through market development, solicitation plans, meeting space and room block management, negotiation of supplier services and accurate forecasting.  Responsible for successful execution of all Group programs to achieve key performance indicators, annual budget, loyalty and performance goals for group meetings and events. Works closely with Director of Group Sales to maintain standards for business processes between group sales and events to ensure quality of booking criteria and contract integrity. 

Position Summary:

  • Highly developed leadership qualities and skilled in the management of meetings and events as it relates to personnel, budget, forecasting, inter-departmental liaison and communication.
  • Knowledge of local police and fire regulations relating to usage of surface streets and internal function space/public areas.
  • Ability to handle multiple customer and operational demands with a high degree of professionalism, operating often with time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to operate independently and with a high degree of autonomy requiring excellent time management skills and self-motivation.
  • Hotel product and industry knowledge, i.e., staffing, operations, safety, security, union rules, structural, terminology, fire, police and health codes, hotel policies, city ordinances.
  • Quantitative processing of data via office machine equipment, mathematical computations and analytical skills necessary to accurately determine and communicate financial, forecasting and space utilization calculations.
  • Proficiency in the use and operation of computer systems with the ability to navigate efficiently through Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Delphi (or in house sales system), Market Vision, OnQ, InFocus, Passkey, Cendyn, CoStar Internet and Intranet and Optimum Settings (or in house CAD program).
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, proposals, general correspondence and similar written materials.
  • Ability to complete a contract in compliance with all checklists, standards and hotel policies.
  • Interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

Supportive Functions:

  • Directs event management team in the execution of negotiated group sales agreements and affiliate business solicitation and personally manages high profile and/or overflow group business as appropriate. Responsible for group rooms forecast and group catering forecast for all definite group business. 
  • Directs daily department operations, customer conflict resolution, interaction with National Sales, Sales Technology Support, generation of corporate and hotel level  reports, business and market plan development and implementation, annual and monthly forecast and budget. 
  • Directs all aspects of professional team development including recruitment, training, recognition, succession planning, coaching/counseling, performance evaluation, goal setting, and incentive plan.
  • Conducts tours of the property for prospective clients, owners and new managers.
  • Maintains a continuous open door policy to answer team member questions needing immediate attention.
  • Implement procedures to enhance or support various administrative or communications challenges.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Hilton from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years as a Director of Events, preferably at a large resort.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Business Administration, Marketing or Communications preferred.
