Under the direction of, and reporting to, the Director, Casino Executive Communications, the Assistant Director of Casino Executive Communications is responsible for managing and coordinating complex communication projects and activities that require a high degree of specialized knowledge of Yaamava' Resort & Casino and Tribal operations. This position will develop, plan, and execute a wide range of communication strategies coming from the Office of the General Manager. This role will orchestrate the multi-faceted communications which may include conducting and/or collecting research, providing data, making recommendations, and implementing solutions to achieve the Office of the General Manager’s communication project goals and objectives.Working in a creative and fast-paced environment, the Assistant Director will be responsible for leading, managing and moderating the C-suite’s communication channels. The Assistant Director will handle aspects from concept to creation and launch of the C-suite’s communications including proactive and reactive communication relations, conferences, community relations, discussion forums, all-hands meetings, executive presentations, board communications, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.Provides impactful, targeted, and illustrative presentations that support operational insights, business opportunities and strategy of Yaamava' Resort and Casino.

2. Acts as project leader across multiple initiatives, balancing resources and time to meet iterative requirements and changing priorities.

3. Ensures offsite meetings, team member activations and group gatherings align with the expectations of the OGM office.

4. Manages the tactical execution of short and long-term Executive Communication objectives through the coordination of projects, presentations, and organizational outreach.

5. Collaborates, develops and vets internal and external communications to align with the Tribe’s and Yaamava' Resort and Casino’s strategy on behalf of the OGM office.

6. Enhances communication and efforts centered around recruitment, engagement, retention, and people development in partnership with Human Resources and other stakeholders.

7. Prioritizes and coordinates the flow of information from various contributors for assignments and projects to meet deadlines.

8. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or similar field required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience with strategic communications, business development and project management required. Ten+ (10+) years preferred.  Brand, PR, or advertising agency experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant, and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
  • Experience with developing content and messaging.
  • Experience with presentations, Keynote, PowerPoint, and marketing design is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in dealing with executive, or similar, level staff.
  • Demonstrated experience across a wide range of traditional and emerging channels.
  • A strategist who can anticipate and support the needs of internal audiences (Board-level, enterprise leaders) and external stakeholders (key vendors and partners, regulators, and the public).
  • A strong written and verbal communicator adept at working with a range of consumer, business, and governmental audiences of varying education levels internally and externally.
  • A flexible, nimble, self-directed, and collaborative self-starter who can quickly shuffle priorities to meet the demands of the job and be comfortable in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Structured thinking and communication of plans and performance.
  • Has an aptitude for visual narrative storytelling.
  • Strong track record in achieving goals with outstanding execution and problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively independently and in collaborative team environments.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.

  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
