About This Job

JOB SUMMARY The Security Officer provides a safe environment for persons on company property, patrol and provides security for Kalahari property, enforce laws and company policies, and deter illegal activities from city, state and federal violators. Security Officers must observe, document, and report all policy violations and illegal activities including fire and intrusion alarms. Officers are to assist all associates and guests to ensure their safety is not compromised.

Public transportation available to Kalahari through Monroe County Transit Authority (MCTA) by way of the Silver Route.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: A college course in related field is helpful. High School Diploma or equivalent is required. CPR certified.

LICENSE/PERMITS REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Must be able to write, read, and speak English as a first language. Bi-lingual speaking skills helpful but not required.

KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE: Must be able to work with and understand security camera systems and the basic security programs on the computer.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Prior experience in Security or Law Enforcement is preferred. Hotel or Resort experience is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Flexible and long hours sometime required including weekends and holidays. Ability to move, walk, and patrol constantly, property and resort grounds throughout the shift (up to 8 hours). Must be prepared to defend one-self, if a situation becomes violent.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly. Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately. Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary. Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the issues raised by Associates, Supervisors, Department Heads, Senior Management, and guests. Must be able to adapt to a broad range of customer interactions, inquiries, and complaints. Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions. Ability to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems exercising good judgment. Make independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information. Must be able to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations. Must maintain composure and objectivity while under pressure. Must be able to deal effectively with internal and external guests, some of whom will require levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS Approach all encounters with guests and associates in a respectful manner. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Kalahari Resort standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the resort. Comply at all times with Kalahari standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. Associates must at all times; be attentive, friendly, helpful, courteous, and maintain good communications and teamwork to all guests, managers, and fellow associates. Maintain proper operation of the security equipment and ensure all hotel security standards are met. Check in with the shift supervisor and/or manager-on-duty on arrival, review security logs and reports daily. Receive a briefing from the dispatching officer who is being replaced to find out what incidents have happened during the previous shift and where services might be needed most, and review any current complaints that were unanswered. Be familiar with all in-house groups and participate in and/or read the Daily Promise. Obtain all necessary information when taking reports and/or statements. Respond to calls from Front Desk for guest and associate requests. Have knowledge of emergency procedures and assist as needed. Use proper two-way radio etiquette at all times when communicating with other associates. Fully comprehend and be able to operate all relevant aspects of the security computer systems, cameras, and other office equipment. Patrol all lobbies, floors, common areas, associate areas, basement, and grounds of Kalahari Resorts. Do checks of the resort perimeter, including all parking lots. Lock all exterior doors after all events of the day have ended. Walk associates/guests to their vehicles if they feel unsafe. Keep the Activities Log updated. Record contacts with guests and the Activities Log (i.e. violations or complaints). Record names and room numbers of guests with whom you have had contact outside of their rooms (i.e. intoxicated guests making too much noise in the lobby). Enforce and report parking lot situations: Proper parking, guests partying in lot, abandoned vehicles, reckless driving, unsafe or unsecured vehicles, etc. If an incident requires a report or a statement, complete the necessary paperwork, and advise the shift supervisor or manager-on-duty when finished. If an incident requires additional follow-up, it should be completed in a timely manner (i.e. obtaining statements, pictures, etc.) The ability to be proactive, flexible, and take on the most effective role at any given time. Ensure the key logs are legible and properly filled out. Help lost children reunite with a family member/chaperone in a timely manner. If an alarm is activated in a room, check the room to ensure everyone's safety (even if Maintenance has cleared the room) before the officer evaluates the scene. Be able to work with and assist local law enforcement and safety personnel. Keep associates updated on local weather conditions and advisories. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Assist guests with lockouts. Attend meetings/training as required by management. Perform other duties as request by management. Provide the utmost in confidentiality with every action taken, verbally and written to protect the rights of guests, associates, and Kalahari Resorts.
