JOB SUMMARY

The HVAC Tech is responsible for performing skilled repairs to the building and equipment such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) units but not limited to and to maintain the best possible conditions at all times with the least amount of inconvenience to guests and associates.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's Degree in HVAC and/or related field helpful and/or three (3) years experience in HVAC, electrical, and appliance repair required. Trade School and/or College course work in related field helpful.

LICENSE/PERMITS REQUIRED: Certificate of completion in HVAC service preferred. EPA Certification/License preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and ensure that staff is working within company policies.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, administrative and pro-active preventative maintenance skills needed.
  • Possess excellent math skills.
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of hotel management helpful.

KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE:

Equipment and software that relates to engineering, HVAC and electrical repairs helpful.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Previous hospitality or related experience helpful.
  • Have knowledge of air conditioning/heating systems, plumbing, building and all facility maintenance required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possible heavy workloads; exerting up to 100 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or other wise move objects occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching involved.
  • Must be able to work in various weather settings such as warm/humid settings and hot/humid weather for indoor and cold or hot/humid outdoor environments.
  • Be able to work flexible and long hours sometimes and weekends, nights, and holidays.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to work well in stressful, high pressure situations, including ability to handle guest objections and disputes to satisfactory results.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the issues raised by Associates, Supervisors, Department Heads, Senior Management, and guests.
  • Must be able to adapt to a broad range of customer interactions, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Ability to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems exercising good judgment.
  • Make independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

  • Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, safety and training programs of Kalahari Resorts.
  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.
  • Make repairs to resort air conditioning systems: change filters, clean coils, replace motors, etc.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the manufacturer's preventative maintenance programs.
  • Actively participate in energy conservation programs per resort standards.
  • Assist in controlling expenses and energy budgets per Kalahari financial standards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment such as boilers, chillers, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) equipment, electrical, etc.
  • Take required readings on equipment.
  • Test cooling tower and record readings.
  • Maintain repair and preventative maintenance records.
  • Assist in scheduling preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in special projects when requested.
  • Perform and maintain work to local, state, and federal codes.
  • Be knowledgeable of policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair, consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the associates and guests.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county and municipal regulations that pertain to equipment safety, inspections, and yearly inspection with all authorities.
  • Provide advice and suggestions to the Maintenance Manager as needed.
  • Participate in the Daily Promise line-up meetings.
