Closed since the pandemic, the property will reopen under the ownership of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and be operated by Waterford Hotel Group.

This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced hotel engineering leader to play a critical part in reopening and relaunch, ensuring the building, systems, and guest-facing areas are fully operational, safe, and well-maintained from day one. The hotel features key amenities including an indoor pool, fitness center, and shuttle service, making strong preventive maintenance and life-safety leadership essential.

We are seeking a hands-on Chief Engineer with deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to building systems, safety, and asset preservation.

Position Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the hotel’s physical structure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life-safety systems. This position plays a vital role in the hotel’s reopening efforts, working closely with the General Manager and leadership team to implement preventive maintenance programs, manage capital projects, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the hotel’s physical plant
  • Prepare the property for reopening by inspecting, testing, and commissioning all building systems and guest amenities
  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance and energy conservation programs
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and life-safety requirements
  • Oversee and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, pool systems, and fire/life-safety systems
  • Manage engineering budgets, inventory, vendor contracts, and capital expenditure projects
  • Supervise, train, and develop the engineering team; establish schedules, coverage, and on-call procedures
  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance issues and emergency situations as needed
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors, contractors, and inspectors
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and compliance documentation
  • Partner with hotel leadership to ensure guest satisfaction and asset protection

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Previous hotel opening, reopening, renovation, or major refurbishment experience
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple workstreams during reopening
  • Experience developing maintenance programs from the ground up
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment during the pre-opening and stabilization period

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Chief Engineer or Facilities Engineer in a hospitality environment
  • Extensive working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, pool operations, and life-safety systems
  • Solid understanding of OSHA regulations, building codes, and safety standards
