Under the direction of the Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Operations Analyst in collaboration with the Investment Operations Associate, is responsible for the operations and administrative elements of the investments for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) Sovereign Wealth Fund. The work involves activities such as coordinating with the Fund custodian and Tribal Finance, facilitating documentation, reporting, and capital flows on an ongoing basis, and supporting the preparation of reports to the Investment Board.

**This role is located in our offices in Irvine, CA.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of investment flows and balances in coordination with the Investment Operations Associate, Fund custodian, and Tribal Finance, supporting performance reporting and dynamic pacing model.   

2. Assist the Investment Operations Associate in quarterly performance reporting to the Investment Board in coordination with the Fund custodian and external consultant. 

3. Facilitates the setup and funding of new investments, coordinates documentation with investment managers, counsel (internal and external for SMBMI, for investment manager), Fund custodian, and internal approval processes. 

4. Facilitates regular processes related to funding and distributions from investment managers, coordinating with Fund custodian, Tribal Finance, and internal approval processes. 

5. Facilitates exit of investment managers that have been terminated or with funds in wind down in coordination with investment managers, Fund custodian, and internal approval processes. 

6. Update and develop templates that can improve and enhance Investment staff’s processes and procedures as relates to investment operations, administration, and Fund management.   

7. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. 

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration is required. 

  • One (1) year’s experience assisting in the administration of an institutional investment portfolio is required. 

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. 

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and the ability to learn and efficiently use web-based systems (such as custodial systems) are required. 

  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment, be proactive, and able to handle confidential material a required. 

  • Strong data processing and data analytical skills required. 

  • Strong attention to detail is required. 

  • Strong research and problem-solving skills is required. 

  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines for short, long and ad-hoc assignments. 

  • Strong critical thinking skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and a desire to take on greater responsibilities and leadership are all required to be a successful member of the Investment Strategies team. 

  • Must have a commitment to exceptional quality, have the highest ethical standards, and have the vision to enhance and further develop SMBMI’s portfolio. 

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. 

  • As a condition of employment with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Investment Strategies Department, incumbents are required to undergo and successfully pass pre-employment and annual post-employment background investigation including, but not limited to, Live-Scan fingerprinting, drug screening and criminal history background check.
