As a senior member of the Financial Reporting and Analysis COE, the Vice President - Consolidated Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Reporting-- will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the groups responsible for the consolidation and aggregated reporting of MI’s Balance Sheet and Cash Flow and the reporting of balance sheet and cash flow results.  The position will serve as the primary liaison for external reporting cash flow and balance sheet submissions to the Accounting Policy COE and for forecasting and planning submissions to CFSA and Treasury. This position is the owner of MI’s $26B balance sheet and over $3B of annual cash flows. Specifically, the position will be accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Lead activities for the quarterly reporting of balance sheet and cash flow results. Ensure that all financial reports are completed accurately, on a timely basis, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Lead balance sheet reporting efforts. Review the balance sheet and ensure activity is accurately reported and that major variances and changes are explained.  Develop actionable analytical tools to identify balance sheet risks and opportunities for respective Financial Business Partners and senior management.
  • Lead preparation and analysis for consolidated cash flow reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.  Lead efforts to identify best practices and implement innovative analytical techniques to identify cash flow improvement opportunities.  Develop actionable cash flow reports for senior management. 
  • Partner with Corporate Financial Strategy and Analysis to consolidate and analyze the annual Budget for balance sheet and cash flow impacts.   
  • Lead all equity related processes for the company including owning certain equity accounts, stock accounting, share based compensation accounting, and basic and diluted share calculations.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to the MIP-66 consolidation and reporting process including final presentation of MI results.
  • Coordinate the annual MI financial audit including the preparation of audit schedules, analysis and resolution of audit problems, and overall audit planning and coordination.
  • Partner with the Treasury team to calculate and monitor all financial ratios used by the rating agencies.
  • Serve as the balance sheet and cash flow subject matter expert for Marriott on a global basis.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Accounting Policy COE to provide timely and accurate data for external reporting. 
  • Provide support to the Investor Relations COE and CFSA in the development and delivery of key financial information to external stakeholders (e.g., earnings call, Investor Relations report, Board of Directors presentation).
  • Identify opportunities to develop the department’s capabilities to fully utilize available reporting and planning systems to optimize financial reporting and analysis. 
  • Provide Chart of Account governance for MI’s balance sheet and cash flow. 
  • Enable operational excellence of the business through the development and execution of end-to-end financial reporting processes that minimize risk and maximize value for the enterprise. 
  • Provide expert consultation on financial data interpretation and financial reporting issues as they relate to MI’s consolidated balance sheet and cash flow. Provide proactive interpretation of financial results and outline recommendations for follow-up actions, as appropriate. 
  • Design, develop, and produce programmatic and custom/ad hoc external financial reports that enable the appropriate focus on business issues and the optimization of business performance.
  • Enable operational excellence of the business through the development and execution of end-to-end financial reporting processes that minimize risk and maximize value for the enterprise. 
  • Identify technologies to enable enhanced automation of programmatic reporting activities.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data and reports produced in this department, through the systemic monitoring of key performance measures and the auditing of key reports on a sampling basis. Identify unusual financial and process performance trends and investigate and resolve any problems and/or inconsistencies, as appropriate. 
  • Monitor and innovate, as appropriate, financial reporting practices and strategies to optimize business performance.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Global Finance partners and key stakeholders to understand the business and ensure timely exchange of information. Provide ongoing guidance to Finance Business Partners and AHS concerning issues related to areas of responsibility.
  • Leverage business and technical knowledge and experience as well as external data to develop and implement operating policies and procedures as well as team and process performance goals.   Systemically and interactively measure team and process performance against goals with a lens of continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of the Financial Reporting & Analysis strategy and develop goals for areas of responsibility in alignment with the organization and broader finance discipline strategy. Accountable for resource decisions for areas of responsibility.

  • Champions leadership development and workforce planning priorities by personally assessing, selecting, retaining, and developing diverse, high-caliber talent that can lead the organization today and strengthen the leadership bench for the future.  Work with Human Resources to anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans and allocate resources appropriately.
  • Sets goals and expectations for direct reports and holds staff accountable for successful performance.  Coaches team by providing specific feedback to improve performance.   Conducts annual performance appraisal with direct reports; and ensures the same occurs at lower levels of his/her organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Candidate Profile

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting and financial reporting processes (design and delivery) in a global organization
  • 8+ years experience in a management role; demonstrated success leading and developing a strong organization and workforce in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment.
  • Lodging/hospitality industry experience strongly preferred.
  • History of consistently delivering business results.
  • Experience in process reengineering preferred.

Education Or Certification 

  • Baccalaureate degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA required.
