Job Title: Lifeguard Manager

Reports To: Director of Safety

Education and Required Certifications: Electronic Medical Records , Basic Life Support, CPR/ Auto External Defibrillator, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, United States Lifesaving Association, American Red Cross Pool Certification. High School Diploma required or equivalent.

Training and Experience: Supervisory and administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Strong customer service and communication skills. Must have current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Cert, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/ Automated External Defibrillator, Electronic Medical Record, Basic Life Support, American Red Cross Pool cert, and United States Lifesaving Association Open Water cert. Must have computer skills including website administration, spreadsheets, and publishing/ page design.

Job Summary: Position includes managing all operations at the Surf Club/Lodge Aquatic facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, developing, implementing, and supervising diversified Surf Club programs, lifeguards, events, and activities suited to the needs of the patrons and potential patrons. Responsible for the overall daily operation at the assigned Aquatic facility. Must maintain and ensure the safety of visitors and members on property. Must respond to medical emergencies and aquatic emergencies. Oversite of staff to include selection, training, onboarding, evaluations and terminations with the support of HR.

Physical Abilities: Must possess mobility to work in an office setting as well as the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/ or pulling of objects and materials of moderate/heavy weight (50-l00lbs).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, nights, holidays and split shifts.
  2. Arrive to work on time, consistently.
  3. Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.
  4. Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval.
  5. Attend all required training, safety courses, office and departmental meetings.
  6. Report any safety hazards, follow up on remedial action, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
  7. Become proficient on all appropriate equipment and safety features.
  8. Greets all patrons and visitors to the facility. Interacts and communicates with a variety of groups and individuals including vendors. Greet members and guests by name whenever possible.
  9. Assigns, directs, and supervises duties and workloads of assigned staff including recruiting/hiring, training, scheduling, monitoring, disciplinary action and evaluation processes.
  10. Plans, coordinates, implements, and supervises programs, classes, and special events to include seasonal programs such as aquatics programs and Jr. Lifeguard programs at assigned facility.
  11. Develops, recommends and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards of Department, staff and assigned facility.
  12. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of assigned aquatic facility.
  13. Must respond to medical emergencies on assigned property.
  14. Must respond to aquatic emergencies (distressed swimmers, drowning victims, etc.)
  15. Prepares and maintains records and files associated with facility operations (Lifeguarding certs, CPR/ AED, EMR, BLS, United States Lifesaving Association, American Red Cross Pool Cert) and activity programs (including program registrations), employee payroll, etc.
  16. Responsible for coordinating/ training employees from all GATE properties (PVIC, Lodge, EFYC, River Club) in CPR/ AED, including their members.
  17. Responsible in making sure the Beach is appropriately staffed with Lifeguards at PVIC, and The Lodge.
  18. Responds to telephone and email inquiries regarding departmental activities.
  19. Ability to direct and supervise subordinates in the operation of the facility.
  20. Knowledge of budget development and accounting practices and administrative policies associated with budget administration.
  21. Knowledge of CPR and first aid practices and principles.
  22. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form with patrons, employees, and the public.
  23. Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports on a timely basis.
  24. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff (St. Johns County Fire Recue Department) and the public.
  25. Knowledge of the use and operation of modern office technologies, e.g. photocopiers, computers, calculators.
  26. Knowledge of use and application of standard computer software packages, e.g., word and spreadsheet applications.
  27. Performs related duties as required and performs any other duties as assigned by management.
