The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) is a self-governing nation and as such has established tribally-managed governmental units to enhance and support services on the San Manuel reservation. The San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission (SMTGC) is the governmental unit that was created by tribal ordinance as the primary regulator of gaming within the SMBMI’s jurisdiction, including the San Manuel Casino (Casino). The SMTGC, which includes the Surveillance Department, is responsible for maintaining legal and regulatory compliance, ensuring a high level of integrity, and safeguarding tribal and Casino assets.Under the direction of the Surveillance Operations Supervisor, the Lead Surveillance Agent observes, reports, records, and documents any and all unusual and/or suspicious occurrences and deviations from established policies, procedures and regulatory publications and assists in enterprise asset protection in and around the San Manuel Casino and other Tribal buildings. The Lead Surveillance Agent additionally assists Surveillance Management in the maintenance of the internal operations of the Surveillance Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Organizes work distribution to Surveillance Agents as it is received in Surveillance Monitor Room.  Analyzes recorded and live surveillance video of property-wide activities to detect any suspicious activity, violations of gaming activity including cheating at play, or suspicious financial transactions, which may pose a risk to employees, vendors, guests, Tribal residents or Casino operations.

2. Maintains working knowledge of all games offered by Casino and possesses strong math aptitude for authorizing payouts, reimbursement and reconciliation, and applies knowledge to mitigate wrongdoings.

3. Works closely and maintains excellent communication with Casino operations and management to gather pertinent information and investigate criminal activity, injuries or illness claims/reports and safety risks.

4. Completes player analysis of patrons gaming who meet pre-determined thresholds as determined by Surveillance Management.  This includes conducting blackjack evaluations and Blackjack Surveys to determine player skill level.

5. Assumes responsibility for efficient operation of Surveillance Department on assigned shift, and performs supervisory duties and functions in absence of Surveillance Operations Supervisor.

6. Trains and mentors Surveillance Agents by providing in-house and remedial training, presenting PowerPoint presentations, performance reports, and input to Surveillance Supervision.

7. Accountable for conducting observations and writing detailed and accurate reports as well as data entry, while maintaining confidentiality of Surveillance Department.

8. Monitors sensitive areas and restricted access areas to ensure only authorized personnel enter respective areas.

9. Responsible for multi-tasking between telephone calls and radio communications traffic and collecting and logging pertinent information utilizing surveillance software in fast-paced environment.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support efficient operation of Department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.

  • Minimum three (3) years surveillance experience or related field required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years in supervisory capacity/ leadership role required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

  • Must possess intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), commercial database systems, and internet research skills.

  • Previous casino surveillance experience is highly preferred.

  • Must possess excellent report writing skills and verbal communication skills.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • Must obtain and maintain a Class “A” Gaming License issued by the SMTGC.

  • Certified Surveillance Professionals (CSP) certification preferred.
