About the Role:

The PHO - Hotel Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of all hotel facilities and engineering systems. This position is responsible for overseeing the upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to guarantee guest comfort and safety. The Hotel Engineer leads preventive maintenance programs and promptly addresses any technical issues to minimize downtime and operational disruptions. Collaboration with various hotel departments is essential to support renovations, upgrades, and compliance with safety regulations. Ultimately, this role ensures that the hotel environment remains functional, efficient, and welcoming for both guests and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hotel engineering, facilities maintenance, or a related technical role.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems used in commercial buildings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications such as EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, HVAC Technician Certification, or Electrical License.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and sustainable building practices.
  • Previous experience working in a hospitality environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of all hotel engineering systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures and extend asset life.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to minimize guest inconvenience and operational impact.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, installations, and compliance inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and safety compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with hotel management and other departments to support renovation projects and ensure engineering standards are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Hotel Engineer to effectively diagnose and resolve technical issues across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring continuous hotel operations. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills are applied daily to maintain and repair complex systems. Communication and coordination skills are essential for working with vendors, contractors, and hotel staff to schedule maintenance and manage projects. Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory compliance ensures that all work is performed safely and legally. Preferred skills such as certification and experience with CMMS enhance the ability to implement efficient maintenance programs and contribute to energy-saving initiatives.
