Job Summary

This position contributes to the success of Los Angeles Athletic Club (“Company”) by creating positive experiences for every member and guest who visits the club by ensuring safe, enjoyable use of the aquatic facility by members and guest, providing guidance and supervision of safe use of aquatic facility, and immediate and effective intervention with adults and children in hazardous, unsafe conditions while on the aquatic area.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Remain attentive and alert of all pool activities at all times; ensuring everyone is using facilities in a safe manner.
  • Provide effective and immediate intervention to any member, guest, and employee in an unsafe or hazardous condition within the aquatic area.
  • Maintain a helpful and cooperative relation with members and guests; engage our members and guests in a courteous, professional, demeanor at all times.
  • Wear always assigned work uniform during work shift; uniform must be clean, neat and in good repair.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe working order, report and email repairs to supervisor and maintenance immediately.
  • Welcome and greet members by name; smile, greet, and assist all members and guests that you encounter.
  • Asist member/guest on and off chair lift; operating the work the chair lift efficiently and safely.
  • Never leave pool area unattended; for breaks and when necessary to leave pool area, secure other lifeguard, or supervisor if available or switch “Lifeguard on Duty: sign to “No Lifeguard on Duty.”
  • Ensure the first aid kit by pool is fully stocked.
  • Make sure all exit sign lights are functioning properly.
  • Report any accidents/incidents immediately, fill out a proper report and submit it to the General Manager, Director of Athletics, and Supervisor.
  • Wipe any areas on the pool deck that are slippery and ensure floors surrounding pool are clear of any items.
  • Ensure that members follow pool rules and fitness etiquette rules.
  • Follow all opening and closing procedures.
  • Develop and conduct swim lessons for various levels of swimmers
  • Be able to teach stoke development for all stokes; freestyle, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly.
  • Provide swim confidence in water and motivational support and confidence.
  • Provides exemplary customer service ensuring the best swim experience for our members.
  • Follows the reservations guidelines for booing swim lessons for our members.

Education, licenses, & certifications:

  • Ideal: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in same or similar positions in the Lifeguard or Aquatics industry
  • Required: American Red Cross Lifeguard; CPR and First Aid; AEC Certification(s)
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Essential qualifications:

  • Required: At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Required: Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Required: Excellent time-management skills; prioritizing and completing assigned job tasks effectively.
  • Required: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey messages clearly and compose correspondence with correct and proper grammar.
  • Required: Capable of working effectively independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ideal: High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ideal: Background in teaching swim lessons and general knowledge in competitive swimming.
  • Required: Strong organizational skills
  • Required: Ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently meet deadlines and produce work in a timely manner.
  • Required: Ability to elicit and accept constructive feedback.

Physical requirements, Demands, and working conditions:

Physical Exertion

Heavy work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects (for example, moving chairs and tables, assisting members out of the water, and assist with pool lift).

Pay: Hourly Base Rate $19.73 USD. Personal Training pay range $23.60 (30min) - $44.60 (1hr)
