About The Opportunity

The Mining Exchange Hotel is seeking a Banquet Captain to lead and inspire our banquet team in delivering exceptional guest experiences. You will oversee event execution, create elegant buffet and station displays, and ensure all event spaces are “show ready.” When no banquet events are scheduled, you will act as a Food & Beverage Supervisor, supporting operations across all outlets. This role is perfect for a service-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, luxury hospitality environment.

Mining Exchange Hotel was built in 1902 as a stock exchange for local mining companies, The Mining Exchange Hotel offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. Our elegant, yet casual public spaces, and guestrooms are all newly renovated.

Job Role

The Banquet Captain is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences by overseeing the flawless execution and presentation of all banquet and event functions at the Mining Exchange Hotel. This role ensures all event spaces are elegant, organized, and “show ready” at all times, with a strong emphasis on luxury presentation, service excellence, and operational accuracy. The Banquet Captain serves as the on-site leader and primary point of contact for events, coordinating closely with Culinary, Housekeeping, and other departments to uphold hotel standards and exceed guest expectations.

Responsibilities:

Event Execution, Presentation & Guest Experience

  • Lead, supervise, and actively participate in event set-up, including tables, chairs, buffet and bar set-up, station labeling, condiments, and beverage preparation.
  • Create elegant buffet and station displays that align with Mining Exchange Hotel presentation standards.
  • Ensure all event rooms are consistently show ready, including refined table displays, elegant centerpieces, and professionally styled table napkins, to support guest walkthroughs and future event bookings.
  • Act as a Food & Beverage Supervisor, providing operational support to all Food & Beverage outlets when there are no banquet events scheduled, ensuring service continuity, staffing support, and compliance with Mining Exchange Hotel service standards.
  • Read, interpret, and execute Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) accurately and completely.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for each assigned event, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of event details and guest expectations.
  • Supervise and inspect function room set-ups to ensure compliance with client specifications and hotel quality standards.
  • Oversee event service to ensure timely execution, quality presentation, and exceptional guest satisfaction.
  • Supervise and inspect post-event clean-up, breakdown, and proper storage of all equipment, supplies, and linens.
  • Ensure event spaces remain clutter-free and visually appealing before, during, and after events

Leadership, Standards & Staff Management

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise banquet staff in proper service techniques and etiquette, including American, French, buffet, and parade-style service.
  • Ensure the banquet team consistently meets and upholds Mining Exchange Hotel service and presentation standards.
  • Assign service stations and build balanced teams to promote efficiency and quality service.
  • Monitor staff attendance and adjust assignments as necessary to meet service needs.
  • Facilitate and lead pre-meal and post-meal briefings and departmental meetings.
  • Define performance expectations and develop action plans to achieve departmental goals.
  • Ensure all assigned side-work and pre-work for future events is completed prior to staff departure.

Administrative, Billing & Operational Support

  • Assist the Food & Beverage Manager and Director of Food & Beverage with administrative and personnel-related matters, including scheduling, time clock review, overtime management, performance coaching, discipline, investigations, and training.
  • Process billing information using the POS system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ensure all billing tickets are reviewed and closed daily.
  • Process event payroll, including accurate calculation of hours worked and gratuity distribution.
  • Maintain inventory of banquet supplies and linens with approval from the Director of Food & Beverage.

Communication, Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate closely with Culinary and Housekeeping teams to ensure event rooms are properly staged, clean, and fully prepared for service and guest viewings.
  • Maintain effective communication with kitchen, beverage, convention services, engineering teams, and event hosts to ensure seamless execution.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations, as well as corporate and hotel standards.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment at all times.

Compensation: $18.00 per hour + service charge. Service charges are commissions and will fluctuate based on events and time of year.

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.

Experience

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a Food & Beverage environment.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and professional etiquette.

  • Prior experience ensuring a safe work environment in compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., ergonomics, emergency response, injury and illness prevention, hazard communication).

  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business demands.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to lift, push, and carry 20–40 pounds.

  • Ability to operate a keyboard and learn Point of Sale (POS) systems.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of presentation and aesthetics.
